BOOK EXCERPT:
During the days 14-18 of October 1991, we had the pleasure of attending a most interesting Conference on New Developments in Partial Differential Equations and Applications to Mathematical Physics in Ferrarra. The Conference was organized within the Scientific Program celebrating the six hundredth birthday of the University of Ferrarra and, after the many stimulating lectures and fruitful discussions, we may certainly conclude, together with the numerous participants, that it has represented a big success. The Conference would not have been possible without the financial support of several sources. In this respect, we are particularly grateful to the Comitato Organizzatore del VI Centenario, the University of Ferrarra in the Office of the Rector, Professor Antonio Rossi, the Consiglio Nationale delle Ricerche, and the Department of Mathematics of the University of Ferrarra. We should like to thank all of the partlClpants and the speakers, and we are especially grateful to those who have contributed to the present volume. G. Buttazzo, University of Pisa G.P. BOOK EXCERPT:
The main focus of the book is to implement wavelet based transform methods for solving problems of fractional order partial differential equations arising in modelling real physical phenomena. It explores analytical and numerical approximate solution obtained by wavelet methods for both classical and fractional order partial differential equations.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This textbook is a short comprehensive and intuitive introduction to Lie group analysis of ordinary and partial differential equations. This practical-oriented material contains a large number of examples and problems accompanied by detailed solutions and figures. In comparison with the known beginner guides to Lie group analysis, the book is oriented toward students who are interested in financial mathematics, mathematical finance and economics. We provide the results of the Lie group analysis of actual models in Financial Mathematics using recent publications. These models are usually formulated as nonlinear partial differential equations and are rather difficult to make use of. With the help of Lie group analysis it is possible to describe some important properties of these models and to obtain interesting reductions in a clear and understandable algorithmic way.The book can serve as a short introduction for a further study of modern geometrical analysis applied to models in financial mathematics. It can also be used as textbook in a master's program, in an intensive compact course, or for self study. The textbook with a large number of examples will be useful not only for students who are interested in Financial Mathematics but also for people who are working in other areas of research that are not directly connected with Physics (for instance in such areas of Applied Mathematics like mathematical economy, bio systems, coding theory, etc.).

BOOK EXCERPT:
Semi-empirical Neural Network Modeling presents a new approach on how to quickly construct an accurate, multilayered neural network solution of differential equations. Current neural network methods have significant disadvantages, including a lengthy learning process and single-layered neural networks built on the finite element method (FEM). The strength of the new method presented in this book is the automatic inclusion of task parameters in the final solution formula, which eliminates the need for repeated problem-solving. This is especially important for constructing individual models with unique features. The book illustrates key concepts through a large number of specific problems, both hypothetical models and practical interest. - Offers a new approach to neural networks using a unified simulation model at all stages of design and operation - Illustrates this new approach with numerous concrete examples throughout the book - Presents the methodology in separate and clearly-defined stages

BOOK EXCERPT:
Recent Trends in Fractional Calculus and Its Applications addresses the answer to this very basic question: "Why is Fractional Calculus important?" Until recent times, Fractional Calculus was considered as a rather esoteric mathematical theory without applications, but in the last few decades there has been an explosion of research activities on the application of Fractional Calculus to very diverse scientific fields ranging from the physics of diffusion and advection phenomena, to control systems to finance and economics. An important part of mathematical modelling of objects and processes is a description of their dynamics. The term Fractional Calculus is more than 300 years old. It is a generalization of the ordinary differentiation and integration to noninteger (arbitrary) order. The subject is as old as the calculus of differentiation and goes back to times when Leibniz, Gauss, and Newton invented this kind of calculation. Several mathematicians contributed to this subject over the years. People like Liouville, Riemann, and Weyl made major contributions to the theory of Fractional Calculus. In recent decades the field of Fractional Calculus has attracted the interest of researchers in several areas, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, finance, and social sciences. - Provides the most recent and up-to-date developments in the Fractional Calculus and its application areas - Presents pre-preparation ideas to help researchers/scientists/clinicians face the new challenges in the application of fractional differential equations - Helps researchers and scientists understand the importance of the Fractional Calculus to solve many problems in Biomedical Engineering and applied sciences
