BOOK EXCERPT:
This book is the first to explore in detail the systematics and taxonomy of the digenean fauna of fish in Indian marine waters. It includes morphological descriptions of 648 species in 190 genera and 30 families. The figures from the original publications are enhanced and made more attractive. Each description is accompanied by information on hosts and distribution. Digenetic trematodes, usually known as Digeneans, are the most diverse group of metazoan parasites of marine fishes. They are parasitic flatworms (Phylum Platyhelminthes) with a complex life-cycle and as adults inhabit mainly the alimentary system and associated organs, but also occur in the blood, under the scales, in the body cavity and in the gall and urinary bladders. Keys to families, genera and species are provided, except for a few large and controversial genera, where morphological characters are insufficient for identification. Although there is extensive literature on Digeneans, it is scattered and largely in obscure local journals. Bringing together most of the primary literature on the subject, this book provides a primer for further study and a starting point for the use of modern molecular methods for the fauna of this region. Unique in its scope, it is a valuable resource for students, professional parasitologists and ecologists as well as fishery and wildlife biologists.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This book, in three volumes, presents a detailed revision of the systematics and taxonomy of the platyhelminth class Trematoda, subclasses Aspidogastrea and Digenea, with keys for the identification of these parasites at the superfamily, family, subfamily and generic levels. The trematodes areparasitic worms infecting all vertebrate groups and include families of significance to human and animal health, with considerable economic impact. The first volume covers the subclass Aspidogastrea and order Strigeida, while the second and third volumes cover the orders Echinostomida andPlagiorchiida.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This contributed book is based on the current status of biodiversity in India, issues and challenges faced by the authorities involved in conservation efforts, and the imperative role of various direct and indirect stakeholders in biodiversity conservation. The book discusses the current status of different forms of biodiversity in India, challenges faced by stakeholders, issues and reasons for biodiversity losses, and efforts by government through various laws, policies, and programs in a concise and comprehensive manner throughout its many chapters. In this way, readers can access diverse information on Indian biodiversity through this book. It is compiled by leading experts in the field of conservation. In 18 chapters, it covers biodiversity of both fauna and flora, on land and in aquatic ecosystems, legal and policy aspects, as well as innovative conservation tool and techniques. It is useful for undergraduates and graduate students and also educates policy planners, bureaucrats, foresters, and researchers in India and abroad.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Handbook of the Zoology of Amphistomes provides a comprehensive survey on the morphology, ecology, systematics, and zoogeography of amphistomes, which are a group of digenetic trematodes parasitic in vertebrates. The handbook features the special morphological characteristics of amphistomes, including the structure and types of muscular organs; a short diagnosis for each species (when possible), as well as a line drawing of each adult fluke; a zoogeographical analysis, including the host-parasite coevolution, distributional patterns, and characterization of faunas within the zoogeographical realm; and a possible evolutionary scenario based on holomorphological characteristics. Parasitologists, helminthologists, zoologists, and biologists working with ecological associations will find this book an essential reference source for their work with amphistomes.
