BOOK EXCERPT:
I'm Lily, a New York newspaper columnist, mother of two, divorcee of one and partner in crime to Michael, English professor, novelist and best friend extraordinaire. We've been friends forever -- well, since I nearly burned down our apartment building while trying to cook. Michael and I have weathered disco, bad fashion, bad perms, bad boyfriends -- for both of us -- my failed marriage, parenthood and writer's block.ÿ Laughter has helped -- and so have the martinis.ÿ But now we face our biggest challenge: the C word. And if I have my way, Michael will be giving up his freewheeling bachelor ways and settling down once and for all. Because I have some very specific wishes for who should take over parental duty when I'm gone. Of course, I refuse to take this lying down -- even when the doctors tell me to lie down and shut up. Because although I'm sick, I'm determined to wear my high heels and lipstick. I'm gonna look good or die trying, dammit.

BOOK EXCERPT:
On the way to Nebraska in 1986 my life was changed forever in the blink of an eye when the tour bus on which I was traveling slammed into an 18-wheel tanker. After the accident and during my recovery my sister was keeping a journal, which she told me was to help me write my book. From time to time through the years I thought about that book, especially when I would share my story at churches or one-on-one and people would say, "You need to write a book" However, my second thought would always be, "Who would ever want to read about me" and I would shove the idea back to the corner of my mind where it had been hanging out for years. Finally a few years ago after being introduced to a word processor, I sat down and began to write my story. The computer made the writing part easy enough, but telling the story was one of the most difficult things I have ever done. It took weeks and weeks of reading and rereading my sister's journal and digging up memories deeply buried, which were painful to review. I won't say it was exactly a labor of love, but I am glad I finally did it. It is my prayer that people will be encouraged and inspired by reading how God has brought me through it all. If I seem courageous or special in any way it is because of Him.

BOOK EXCERPT:
At an early age, author Marnie Hill was aware of the unseen worlds, and throughout her life, she has experienced spirit communication from the other side. From the time she began offering medium readings to her clients, she learned there are universal experiences regarding life after death. Some people have had the opportunity to see their loved ones after they’ve passed, while others have endured unusual paranormal experiences featuring ghosts or angelic encounters. In Heaven and the In-Between, she narrates her experiences with spirits, being a medium, and the knowledge she’s gained throughout the years regarding life in heaven. She offers a look at the different realms within the afterlife, what happens after one dies, and discusses how you can heal your soul in the living world. For anyone who has lost a loved one, Heaven and the In-Between gives insight into what happens after death, why the dead speak, and why you should listen.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Teaching is not an activity that necessarily causes learning. Nor is learning always the result of having been taught by someone or something. So, what is teaching—and more specifically—what is good teaching? Philogia Prima draws on her experiences as a teacher to answer those questions—while also sharing her observations about academics as the only Jew in a Catholic high school. She explains that teaching is not always a means of communicating knowledge about something or someone external to either teacher or students. But having the confidence to function as a teacher should be the product of a teacher’s knowledge and belief—call it faith—in the value of whatever is being taught. If a teacher is neither knowledgeable nor aware of what is lacking, confidence is not there, and students can sense its absence. Moreover, if a teacher never says, “I don’t know,” he or she is doing students a disservice. Students need to be reminded that learning is a process that sometimes emanates from, but just as often, includes the teacher. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, administrator or someone else trying to help students learn, you’ll find valuable insights in More Things in Heaven and Earth.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The intention of this book is the "harmonious" coexistence between man and woman. However, we can only bring this to fruition by working together, when we ourselves are in accord with our own true Self. Accord is generated when we listen in complete silence to the inner voice deep in our own heart and follow its suggestions. For only then will our inner truth and the living life outside grow more and more towards unity. We are becoming the "No. 1" we are. The more accord there is within us, the more there will be harmony within us and in our relationships!

BOOK EXCERPT:
A Taste of Heaven on Earth explores the spiritual foundation of the nineteenth-century utopian Oneida Community founded by John Humphrey Noyes, whose members sought purity of heart in all thoughts, words, and activities. Following graduation from college with honors, Noyes studied at two theological seminaries, opening his heart to receive God. He discovered the Holy Spirit as our ever-present teacher, revealing the wisdom and experiences of Christ, and that the purpose of human life is preparing the heart to hear this Internal Teacher and implementing its teachings. Spend pleasant hours with many of the nearly three hundred members of Noyes’s communities, people of all personalities and proclivities—how they loved and learned, worked and played, prayed and made music, and lived together with openness and harmony. All were married to all in this unique community, showing that a happy marriage may exist between two hundred and fifty as well as two. They practiced enlightened sexuality, learned emotional intelligence and spiritual self-examination, thrived with variety in work, enjoyed lifelong learning, and nurtured all children as their own. Most of all, they practiced openness to God, the only source of lasting joy and contentment.
