BOOK EXCERPT:
The book covers a wide range of wireless communication and network technologies, and will help readers understand the role of wireless technologies in applications touching on various spheres of human life, e.g. healthcare, agriculture, building smart cities, forecasting and the manufacturing industry. The book begins by discussing advances in wireless communication, including emerging trends and research directions for network technologies. It also highlights the importance of and need to actively develop these technologies. In turn, the book addresses different algorithms and methodologies which could be beneficial in implementing 5G Mobile Communication, Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANET), Reliable Cooperative Networks, Delay Tolerant Networks (DTN) and many more contexts related to advanced communications. It then addresses the prominence of wireless communication in connection with the Internet of Things (IoT), Mobile Opportunistic Networks and Cognitive Radio Networks (CRN). Lastly, it presents the new horizons in architecture and building protocols for Li-Fi (Light-Fidelity) and Wearable Sensor Technology.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This book provides a preview of emerging wireless technologies and their architectural impact on the future mobile Internet. The reader will find an overview of architectural considerations for the mobile Internet, along with more detailed technical discussion of new protocol concepts currently being considered at the research stage. The first chapter starts with a discussion of anticipated mobile/wireless usage scenarios, leading to an identification of new protocol features for the future Internet. This is followed by several chapters that provide in-depth coverage of next-generation wireless standards, ad hoc and mesh network protocols, opportunistic delivery and delay tolerant networks, sensor network architectures and protocols, cognitive radio networks, vehicular networks, security and privacy, and experimental systems for future Internet research. Each of these contributed chapters includes a discussion of new networking requirements for the wireless scenario under consideration, architectural concepts and specific protocol designs, many still at research stage.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Securing Emerging Wireless Systems: Lower-layer Approaches aims to fill a growing need in the research community for a reference that describes the lower-layer approaches as a foundation towards secure and reliable wireless systems. Whereas most of the references typically address cryptographic attacks by using conventional "network security" approches for securing wireless systems, the proposed book will be differentiated from the rest of the market by its focus on non-cryptographic attacks that cannot easily be addressed by using traditional methods, and further by presenting a collection of defense mechanisms that operate at the lower-layers of the protocol stack and can defend wireless systems before the effects of attacks propagate up to higher-level applications and services. The book will focus on fundamental security problems that involve properties unique to wireless systems, such as the characteristics of radio propagation, or the location of communicating entities, or the properties of the medium access control layer. Specifically, the book provides detection mechanisms and highlights defense strategies that cope with threats to wireless localization infrastructure, attacks on wireless networks that exploit entity identity (i.e. spoofing attacks), jamming and radio interference that can undermine the availability of wireless communications, and privacy threats where an adversary seeks to infer spatial and temporal contextual information surrounding wireless communications. Additionally, the authors explore new paradigms of physical layer security for wireless systems, which can support authentication and confidentiality services by exploiting fading properties unique to wireless communications.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Developing Services for the Wireless Internet offers state-of-the-art technological knowledge and practical know-how to practitioners – project managers, software architects and designers, process engineers and quality assurance workers. The book supports the developers of services and applications for mobile phones, PDAs and smart phones. This new emerging domain is characterized by a very fast pace of change in the underlying technology, exposing products and applications to a constant risk of obsolescence. The relative youth of this field means that knowledge is comparatively limited. The book identifies an approach to mitigate the above risks by focusing on: The development process, the underlying technology and its effects on connectivity, and software architectures. It provides an essential tool kit for all working in this field.
