Scientific documentation on sediment chemistry and the contamination potential of open-water disposal of dredged material are criticallly reviewed and summarized in this report. Analyses, comparisons and recommendations are made on techniques for possible use in dredging projects. The most important limitations of these techniques are described. Recommendations are made for the establishment of priorities for future research on dredging projects, particularly those on the St. Lawrence River.
