BOOK EXCERPT:
A fundamental requirement in an inclusivist understanding of the relationship between Christianity and other religions is evidence of God's salvific activity outside any knowledge of Christ. This is commonly identified in the religion of Old Testament Israel. On this basis an analogy (the "Israel analogy") is drawn between the religion of the old covenant and contemporary non-Christian religions. Closely related is the parallel argument that as Christ has fulfilled the Old covenant, he can also be seen as the fulfillment of other religious traditions and their scriptures. This study outlines the use of the Israel analogy and the fulfillment model, subjecting these concepts to a biblical and theological critique revealing that the exegetical and patristic data are misconstrued in support of these concepts. Furthermore, the Israel analogy and the fulfillment model undermine the sui generis relationship between the old and new covenants and fail to respect the organic, progressive nature of salvation history. They also misconstrue the old covenant and the nature of its fulfillment in the new covenant. The Israel analogy and fulfillment model rely on a correspondence between the chronologically premessianic (Israel) and the epistemologically premessianic (other religions), and therefore consider the "BC condition" to continue today. In so doing, they undermine the significance of the Christ-event by failing to appreciate the decisive effect of this event on history and the nature of existence. It marks a radical turn in salvation history, a crisis point, rendering the BC period complete and fulfilled. Therefore the concept of a continuing "premessianic" condition or state is seriously flawed, as are the Israel analogy and fulfillment model. Thus the inclusivist paradigm reliant in large part on these defective concepts is also problematic, and proponents of this paradigm need to reconsider its basis.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The church has been entrusted with God's revelation—and to steward the word of truth, we must confess the Bible's teaching with clarity and conviction. Adam Harwood's Christian Theology is both biblically faithful and historically informed, providing a fresh synthesis of the essential doctrines of the faith. Writing from a Baptist perspective, Harwood brings fresh insights that many systematic theologies lack. With readable prose, suggestions for further study, and discussion questions, Christian Theology will equip students and pastors to clarify and articulate what they believe and why.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Just as the government structure of Russia differs from that of the United States, and both differ from that of Great Britain, so it is with church government. Yet, as the institution governed by God's written word, the church must find and defend its governing structures using that word--the Bible. In this book, Dr. Simon Goncharenko argues that it is, in fact, possible to identify a specific preferred model of church polity within the Bible and to model our current church structure after Scriptural precedent.

Also included in the definitions section are Biblical examples where Jesus forgave sinners and how we can follow his example. Forgiveness isn't based on a feeling, but rather on the fact that God calls us to forgive. The last section titled, "Steps to Solution", gives you practical advice on how to have a heart of forgiveness with: 4 stages of forgivenessForgiveness vs. reconciliationHonesty required for reconciliationA sample prayer to forgive your offender7 ways to sustain a forgiving heartAnd much more! Forgiveness will shed light on the characteristics of an unforgiving heart and the high cost of unforgiveness versus the high reward of forgiveness. Read the captivating story of how Corrie Ten Boom, a woman who survived a Nazi concentration camp, forgave one of her prison guards. Losing her father and sister to that same concentration camp made forgiving this man very hard, for it was only by the grace of God that helped her choose to forgive rather than to be entrapped in bitterness.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Over the last 20 years it has become chic to use the term “follower of Christ.” I have heard pastors stand in the pulpit and ask people to raise their hands if they want to be a follower of Christ. All across the room hands go up. Those hands are then summarily counted as converts to the Christian faith.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The African American Guide to the Bible makes the case for the relevance of the Bible from the perspective of people of color. It presents a comprehensive biblical view of topics of interest to African Americans and clarifies racial issues for white people. Part 1 addresses the inspiration of the Bible by giving evidence for its authenticity. A considerable amount of time is spent on examining the original text of the Bible, the archeological evidence, and the evidence from predictive prophecy to demonstrate the uniqueness of the Bible. Part 2 deals with the black presence in the Bible by demonstrating the prominence of people of color and black people in particular by highlighting their importance in the plan of God. It explains what it means to be black and demonstrates that the scientific and biblical evidence are both consistent with respect to race. Part 3 is a response to the arguments of racism used by critics of the Bible, for example, "Christianity is the white man's religion" and "Bible supports slavery and racism." These arguments are examined and evaluated in light of scripture and the context of history. Part 4 deals with the unity of humanity from a biblical perspective. It shows why racism is not only unbiblical but is evil when understood from the perspective of God.

BOOK EXCERPT:
God's holy presence may have eluded you . . . but He truly wants for you to experience his glory. Christ in You . . . God's Manifest Presence in the World Today offers a comprehensive study of God's interaction with mankind through the ages. Dr. Sullivan's ability to express biblical-theology in creative and insightful ways is refreshing. Doug skillfully traces God's glorious presence through the Bible and shows how our loving Father reveals Himself to ordinary people, impacting their lives, and affecting others around them and even the places where these encounters occur. He desires that all believers powerfully embrace the holy presence of the Father in a personal and life-changing encounter just as the patriarchs of old experienced. Believers in our post-modern culture must resist contentment with stories and memories of past relationships with God and intentionally press forward into His manifest presence which empowers Christians to make a difference right where God places them . . . in the workplace, marketplace, and communities where we live our lives. He examines the biblical foundation for developing the necessary understanding of the true incarnational ministry impact of spirit-filled Christians in marketplace outreaches, and he provides hope for believers in the world today by showing that as they develop a true relationship with the LORD, God's revealed glory in them also transforms individuals in their communities. People find the evidence of God's manifest presence in relationships. God connects individually with humans and then impacts His people through these personal interactions. Understand God's presence as you have never understood it before. Christ in You . . . God's Manifest Presence in the World Today facilitates incarnational transformation in your life as you allow the holy presence of the Father to impact you as the power of the Holy Spirit changes you just like Abraham, Moses, David, Paul, and countless others.
