BOOK EXCERPT:
Within each of the four gospels there is a foundational spirit, a spirituality of the gospels. That is to say, each gospel contains rich images and values central to the Vision of the person of Jesus' and to the path toward spiritual transformation in his image. In this volume Patrick Hartin first looks at each gospel and asks such questions as Who is Jesus? and What transformation does this encounter with Jesus invite? Hartin then follows with examples of people who have appropriated the transformative power of these particular spiritualties from Saint Antony and Dorothy Day to Saint Augustine and Archbishop Romero. Hartin's twofold approach gives us a deeper appreciation for the spiritual dimension of the gospels and helps us to be transformed in Christ by their message and Vision.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Mysteries of the Early Christ takes readers on a journey into the rarely explored realms of the Infancy Gospels, unveiling the apocryphal narratives that seek to illuminate the early years of Jesus Christ. From miraculous births to childhood wonders, these non-canonical texts reveal a compelling dimension of Christian tradition that has long remained at the peripheries of historical study. Andrew S. Lee delves into the origins, theological depth, and cultural impact of these mysterious texts, examining how they enriched early Christian communities' understanding of Christ and contributed to broader theological developments. By exploring the narratives of the Protoevangelium of James, the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, and other apocryphal writings, Lee provides valuable insights into the ancient world's religious and cultural landscape. This book uncovers the significance of the Childhood Gospels in shaping early Christian beliefs, offering readers a fresh perspective on the faith's formative years. Through careful historical analysis and engaging storytelling, Mysteries of the Early Christ invites readers to reimagine the mysterious early life of Jesus and the role these narratives played in the evolution of Christian thought.

BOOK EXCERPT:
There is a growing recognition that God’s design is for us to read Scripture alongside the whole church in all of its cultural and linguistic diversity. Exploring the New Testament in Asia is a textbook for students and scholars of the New Testament to help the church hear and see the good news of Jesus anew. This collection of essays offers theological reflections on New Testament themes from Asian perspectives, while addressing contextual issues in light of the New Testament. Touching on topics such as salvation, holiness, poverty, ethnic tensions, reconciliation, honoring elders, persecution, and hospitality, the scholars in this book demonstrate the importance of a varied contemporary context for understanding the New Testament. The result is a theological contribution that is both contextually relevant and biblically faithful.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This study explores the conversion theologies of Luke and Paul. For Luke and Paul conversion played an important role in the early Christian experience and Morlan offers a fresh look into how they interpreted this phenomenon. Morlan traverses representative texts in the Lukan and Pauline corpus equipped with three theological questions. What is the change involved in this conversion? Why is conversion necessary? Who is responsible for conversion? Morlan presents theological and exegetical analysis of Luke 15, Acts 2, Acts 17.16-34, Romans 2 and Romans 9-11 and answers these questions, and, in turn, builds theological profiles for both Luke and Paul. These profiles provide fresh insight into the theological relationship between Luke and Paul, showing significant similarities as well as sharp contrasts between them. Similarities surface between Luke and Paul concerning the centrality of Christology in their conversion theologies. While showing a complex relationship between human and divine agency in conversion, both Luke and Paul understand successful conversion to be impossible without the intervention of an agency outside of the pre-convert.

BOOK EXCERPT:
It is no easy task to move from a general proficiency in English to navigating the specialized English so often used in theological resources. In addition to linguistic challenges, theology students with English as a second language encounter difficult concepts and different ways of thinking. In response, Exploring Parables in Luke aims to help such students engage with theological literature more effectively. Chapter by chapter, as students work through the theologically rich explorations of Jesus’ parables, they will grow in their proficiency of both English and theology. As a result, students will not only have a greater ability to access English language theological libraries, but also contribute to them.
