Book 5 Apologetics Hc

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

How Does God Really Want Us to Prove Christianity Christian apologetics is the endeavor to prove "There is salvation in no one else [but Jesus Christ] (Acts 4:12). The most popular approach is an intellectual one that marshals scientific, historical, and philosophical arguments to defend the Christian faith. However, this book makes the following claims: - Intellectual apologetics has no biblical support, including the often quoted 1 Peter 3:15. - The Apostle Paul actually denounced the use of intellectual apologetics for evangelism. - Virtue apologetics, which proves the Gospel by the superior love and holiness of Spirit-indwelled believers, is repeatedly commanded in Scripture and demonstrated in real life and history. - Claims to Christian immorality in both history and modern research are not true. - While there are a multitude of books on intellectual apologetics, this author could not find a biblical study that explains, defends, and encourages virtue apologetics. So he wrote one.

Book 6 Biblical Faith Hc

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Faith is a vital topic in Christian theology. However, the concept is more complex than is assumed. John Stott writes: "One wonders if there is any Christian quality more misunderstood than faith." We demonstrate that Scripture uses faith in a variety of ways, including saving faith, false faith, miracle faith, empowering faith, and visionary faith. Failure to recognize this leads to serious error in both Arminianism and charismaticism. Included is an extended section on visionary faith that enables us to step out in courage, taking risks to pursue human plans to fulfill God's commands. In our defense of the fact that biblical faith must rest on biblical revelation, we critique the inclusivism of John Wesley, Billy Graham, and C. S. Lewis which claims salvation can be apart from a revelation of the Gospel. Finally, we demonstrate that the strength of our faith depends on reason, and the evidences it perceives and evaluates. There is no such thing as a biblical "leap of faith" apart from reason.

God Is Able 10th Anniversary Edition

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

I wrote the first edition of this book a decade ago. I was young and confident. Then ten years happened. To me. To you. To us. I’m not quite as young as I once was, but I am still as confident as ever in this undeniable fact: our God is able. While so much in all our lives has changed, He has remained the same. His capacity, character, and compassion have not shifted an inch because His power is supernatural, is never diminished, and is ever available to His children. God is able. Whether you and I have crossed paths in these pages before or it’s your first time to savor the beautiful truths found in Ephesians 3:20–21, I invite you to join me in this ten-years-wiser, updated edition, where I hope you’ll be reminded that your Father is able to take you above whatever you’ve been living beneath. He’s done it before. He’ll do it again. Priscilla

Religion Consumerism And Sustainability

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

To varying degrees, classic religions are associated with critique of materialistic values. Onto this opposition of the market and the temple other binaries have been grafted, so that 'North' and the 'West' are portrayed as secular and materialistic, 'South' and 'East' either as 'tigers' pursuing western-style affluence and economic growth or locked into retrospective fundamentalisms. These characterisations are called into question in a context of diversity and global movements of peoples and goods. In this collection this complexity is addressed in an analysis of the interconnections between religious and consumption practices and cultures, and the ways in which both are responding to the ecological threat posed by continuous economic growth. International in scope, the book combines empirical and theoretical work in its attempt to interrogate the traditional opposition of spiritual and materialistic values, and to explore the interplay of religious and consuming passions in contemporary cultures. This analysis leads to a consideration of the ways in which religions and secular spiritualities can contribute to a new ecological consciousness, and to the adoption of less destructive and rapacious ways of life.
