BOOK EXCERPT:

"False Reality, But True," is about the separate yet parallel journeys of two men and how both are touched with the grace of true love which is eternally seared to the beat of their hearts. The younger man's love acts as a hope, a powerful strength, pushing him through the gut of war and death, leaving him searching endlessly and tirelessly for the woman he loves. From the memories of their love, to the promises they made, he vows to find her before death scrapes her away, a flower to a withered form. The older man's love acts as a curse, condemning him to a life of heartache after a lost love that can never be redeemed. Vengeance to his love, the missing voice to his heart, he never rests as he seeks his last and final calling. Mysticism hides throughout their journeys and their unique connection unravels as their brutal fight for survival exposes the power of love and goodness in heroic proportions.

BOOK EXCERPT:

The author is a hermit! A lifetime underachiever: A person who learned that you make it in life by hard work, smarts and chance. Who understands that there are no accidents or luck in life; there are only mistakes, opportunities and preparation. The author does not believe in marriage or relationships because he doesn't want to share 50/ 50 with no one. He only believes in intercourse and the feelings for the moment. It doesn't matter how a woman looks. That's because the author is more interested in the act and the person than the physical features. The author doesn't want his picture in the book because he rather be recognized for his works not his face. And he wants you to know in the end where to find happiness. It's not in a mate. They could leave you one day. It's in your babies.

William James On Ethics And Faith

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book offers a new interpretation of William James's ethical and religious thought. Michael Slater shows that James's conception of morality, or what it means to lead a moral and flourishing life, is intimately tied to his conception of religious faith, and argues that James's views on these matters are worthy of our consideration. He offers a reassessment of James's 'will to believe' or 'right to believe' doctrine, his moral theory, and his neglected moral arguments for religious faith. And he argues that James's pragmatic account of religion is based on an ethical view of the function of religion and a realist view of the objects of religious belief and experience, and is compatible with his larger conception of pragmatism. The book will appeal to readers interested in the history of modern philosophy, especially pragmatism, as well as those interested in moral philosophy, religion, and the history of ideas.

A Companion To Nineteenth Century Philosophy

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Investigate the challenging and nuanced philosophy of the long nineteenth century from Kant to Bergson Philosophy in the nineteenth century was characterized by new ways of thinking, a desperate searching for new truths. As science, art, and religion were transformed by social pressures and changing worldviews, old certainties fell away, leaving many with a terrifying sense of loss and a realization that our view of things needed to be profoundly rethought. The Blackwell Companion to Nineteenth-Century Philosophy covers the developments, setbacks, upsets, and evolutions in the varied philosophy of the nineteenth century, beginning with an examination of Kant’s Transcendental Idealism, instrumental in the fundamental philosophical shifts that marked the beginning of this new and radical age in the history of philosophy. Guiding readers chronologically and thematically through the progression of nineteenth-century thinking, this guide emphasizes clear explanation and analysis of the core ideas of nineteenth-century philosophy in an historically transitional period. It covers the most important philosophers of the era, including Hegel, Fichte, Schopenhauer, Mill, Kierkegaard, Marx, Nietzsche, Bradley, and philosophers whose work manifests the transition from the nineteenth century into the modern era, such as Sidgwick, Peirce, Husserl, Frege and Bergson. The study of nineteenth-century philosophy offers us insight into the origin and creation of the modern era. In this volume, readers will have access to a thorough and clear understanding of philosophy that shaped our world.

Philosophy And Politics

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

There is a didactical as well as a philosophical importance to providing a commentary on the Preface to Hegel's handbook on the philosophy of right. Considering the fact that the text brings us the thought of a great and difficult philosopher in a non-rigorous, "exoteric" way, it is well suited to the task of introducing students to the world of think ing. It is, however, too difficult to do this without being supplemented by some explanation. Analysis and hints for further study are necessi tated here by both the interweaving of political and philosophical viewpoints and the philosophical presuppositions with which this Preface is full. The philosophical importance of a commentary on Hegel's text can be found partially in the incessant quotation of the Preface in the literature on Hegel's philosophy to justify very different and contra dictory interpretations. As long as the specialists do not agree about the meaning of the Preface to the Philosophy of Right, anyone trying to explain it cannot avoid the task of making his or her own contribu tion to the philosophical debate concerning the nature and content of Hegel's work.
