Finite Elements For Electrical Engineers

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This third edition of the principal text on the finite element method for electrical engineers and electronics specialists presents the method in a mathematically undemanding style, accessible to undergraduates who may be encountering it for the first time. Like the earlier editions, it begins by deriving finite elements for the simplest familiar potential fields, and then formulates finite elements for a wide range of applied electromagnetics problems. These include wave propagation, diffusion, and static fields; open-boundary problems and nonlinear materials; axisymmetric, planar and fully three-dimensional geometries; and scalar and vector fields. A wide selection of demonstration programs allows the reader to follow the practical use of the methods. Besides providing all that is needed for the beginning undergraduate student, this textbook is also a valuable reference text for professional engineers and research students.

Boundary Element Methods For Electrical Engineers

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Presents Boundary Element Method (BEM) in a simple fashion in order to help the beginner to understand the very basic principles of the method. This book initially derives BEM for the simplest potential problems, and subsequently builds on these to formulate BEM for a wide range of applications in electromagnetics.

International Workshop On Finite Elements For Microwave Engineering

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

When Courant prepared the text of his 1942 address to the American Mathematical Society for publication, he added a two-page Appendix to illustrate how the variational methods first described by Lord Rayleigh could be put to wider use in potential theory. Choosing piecewise-linear approximants on a set of triangles which he called elements, he dashed off a couple of two-dimensional examples and the finite element method was born. Finite element activity in electrical engineering began in earnest about 1968-1969. A paper on waveguide analysis was published in Alta Frequenza in early 1969, giving the details of a finite element formulation of the classical hollow waveguide problem. It was followed by a rapid succession of papers on magnetic fields in saturable materials, dielectric loaded waveguides, and other well-known boundary value problems of electromagnetics. In the decade of the eighties, finite element methods spread quickly. In several technical areas, they assumed a dominant role in field problems. P.P. Silvester, San Miniato (PI), Italy, 1992 Early in the nineties the International Workshop on Finite Elements for Microwave Engineering started. This volume contains the history of the Workshop and the Proceedings of the 13th edition, Florence (Italy), 2016 . The 14th Workshop will be in Cartagena (Colombia), 2018.

Finite Element Analysis Of Electrical Machines

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

In Finite Element Analysis of Electrical Machines the author covers two-dimensional analysis, emphasizing the use of finite elements to perform the most common calculations required of machine designers and analysts. The book explains what is inside a finite element program, and how the finite element method can be used to determine the behavior of electrical machines. The material is tutorial and includes several completely worked out examples. The main illustrative examples are synchronous and induction machines. The methods described have been used successfully in the design and analysis of most types of rotating and linear machines. Audience: A valuable reference source for academic researchers, practitioners and designers of electrical machinery.

Introduction To The Finite Element Method In Electromagnetics

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

"This is an introduction to the finite element method with applications in electromagnetics. Author Anastasis Polycarpou begins with the basics of the method, including formulating a boundary-value problem using a weighted-residual method and the Galerkin approach, followed by the imposition of all three types of boundary conditions, including absorbing boundary conditions. Another important topic of emphasis is the development of shape functions including those of higher order. This book provides the reader with all information necessary to apply the finite element method to one- and two-dimensional boundary-value problems in electromagnetics."--BOOK JACKET.

The Finite Element Method In Engineering

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Finite Element Method in Engineering is the only book to provide a broad overview of the underlying principles of finite element analysis and where it fits into the larger context of other mathematically based engineering analytical tools. This is an updated and improved version of a finite element text long noted for its practical applications approach, its readability, and ease of use. Students will find in this textbook a thorough grounding of the mathematical principles underlying the popular, analytical methods for setting up a finite element solution based on mathematical equations. The book provides a host of real-world applications of finite element analysis, from structural design to problems in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics. It has added new sections on the assemblage of element equations, as well as an important new comparison between finite element analysis and other analytical methods showing advantages and disadvantages of each. This book will appeal to students in mechanical, structural, electrical, environmental and biomedical engineering. The only book to provide a broadoverview of the underlying principles of finite element analysis and where it fits into the larger context of other mathematically based engineering analytical tools. New sections added on the assemblage of element equations, and an important new comparison between finite element analysis and other analytical methods, showing the advantages and disadvantages of each.
