Many people have become angry and frustrated with organized religion and evangelical Christianity, in particular. Too often the church has proven to be a source of pain rather than a place of hope. Forgive Us acknowledges the legitimacy of much of the anger toward the church. In truth, Christianity in America has significant brokenness in its history that demands recognition and repentance. Only by this path can the church move forward with its message of forgiveness, reconciliation, and peace. Forgive Us is thus a call to confession. From Psalm 51 to the teachings of Jesus to the prayers of Nehemiah, confession is the proper biblical response when God’s people have injured others and turned their backs on God’s ways. In the book of Nehemiah, the author confesses not only his own sins, but also the sins of his ancestors. The history of the American church demands a Nehemiah-style confession both for our deeds and the deeds of those who came before us. In this short work, the confessor will three forms of Confession and Absolution with their pastor, many confessions examples with the assurance that God has forgiven them, and two practices that prepare the confessor for the act confession and the receiving of God's forgiveness.

Confession in early modern Europe has been the subject of several studies. But what happened to the confessional practice when it moved to other cultures? This is the major research question of the present book as applied to late Ming and early Qing China. The origin of this research can be traced back to the Handbook of Christianity in China: Volume One (635-1800) (Leiden 2000) compiled by researchers of the K.U. Leuven, in collaboration with an international team of circa twenty scholars. As a reference work, the Handbook comprehensively presents many different aspects of Christianity in China, including sciences, arts and crafts. But there was one major absentee: ritual, which is often considered essential for understanding China. A first step in filling this gap was the organisation of an international workshop on "Chinese and Christian Rituality in Late Imperial China" (Leuven, June 2004). The present volume includes the revised contributions by Eugenio Menegon and Erik Zürcher and a reworked version of an article by Liam Brockey as well as the edition of the primary source he used for his article, a confessional manual composed by Jose Monteiro S.J. (1646-1720). These articles portray from different angles one of the sacramental rituals, viz. that of confession.

Her name is Good. And her father had a dream. He built that dream out of a Georgia swamp with his bare hands and strength of will. It isn’t Good’s dream, though. She has other plans. But her father’s sudden death, her love for him, and his near mythic and ghostly presence on the property have kept her feeling obligated to maintaining and operating the dying Starlite Drive-in theater. She also feels responsible for her father’s old friends - the drive-in being their home and livelihood. Good’s art, along with her hopes and dreams, have taken a firm backseat to the daily tasks of running a business and wrestling with a massive, temperamental and outdated movie projector she calls ‘the beast’. All the while she faces down a huge, white screen that seems like a never blinking eye keeping watch of her every move. She’s certain she’ll never escape. She also has a lot on her plate right now. The Georgia winter was a short one and there’s plenty to do before the crumbling Starlite will be ready for the upcoming season. What she certainly doesn’t need is a handsome stranger to come wandering into her life. He has only one name, drives a classic car in showroom condition, and has odd burn scars on the palms of his hands. To top it off, he claims to have amnesia. But Elvis likes him. And Elvis means the world to Good. While she hasn’t the time nor the patience for any of this, she can hear Elvis saying plain as day: “There’s a story here what needs a tellin’.” You see, a new season is about to open for the Starlite. Yes sir, a whole lot of new is about to open up.

I came up with this title after completing my chapters I wanted to talk about. Looking at this world and the reality of it grieves my heart. Knowing the reality of the life I have lived and most people in my territory, we need to be forgiven for the sake of our children and our childrenaEUR(tm)s children. It says in the Bible that God feels what we feel. He hurts when we hurt. Even for the souls that have gone on before us, if they did not ask God to forgive them for the things they have done on this earth, I ask for their forgiveness as well. Forgiveness is very important for everyone if they want to be forgiven. If we do not forgive, we hold animosity in our hearts. Holding animosity in our hearts leads to heart disease and even heart failure. No one is worth your soul, so give it to Jesus Christ today. He will fight for you. Our job is to love one another in JesusaEUR(tm)s name. Amen.

Forgive Us Our Trespasses concerns a boy who makes his way in the world alone. It tells of the conversion of an embittered young cynic to a belief in the magic power of forgiveness, combined with a touch of mildly mystic communion with an undefined Deity. The narrative covers the ancestral background and the life up to the late twenties of a child born unhappily into a hostile environment and equipped with the soul of a rebel. Lloyd C. Douglas was an American minister and author born in Indiana in 1877. He was married and had two children. He did not write his first novel until the age of 50 but was considered to be one of the most popular writers of his time. His works usually had a moral and religious tone. Two of his best known works were The Robe and The Big Fisherman, which were made into major motion pictures. The Robe, written in 1942, sold over two million copies in hardcover alone. It held the number one position on the New York Times Best Seller list for over a year and remained on the list for an additional two years. The film version of The Robe hit the movie screens in 1953 and starred Richard Burton.
