Although mainly about Fredericksburg, Virginia, it does include some points of interest from the surrounding countryside.

The earliest known ancestor, (Jacques Marie, Sr.) James Marye, Sr. (1692-1768), was educated at the College de Bourbon at Rouen, Normandy, France for the priesthood. He left the Catholic religion and fled to England where he studied for the Anglican ministry before coming to America in 1730. He was the pastor of St. George's Episcopal Church of Fredericksburg, Virginia for thirty-two years.
