The infectious rhythms of House music in New York City are adjacent to cumbia in Mexico, next to reggaeton in Puerto Rico, alongside Latin pop in L.A. and merengue in an east coast city. But the spectrum of experiences and emotions that inhabit our days gives these stories dimension and gay/queer Latinos a common ground. U.S. Latino Literature is defined as Latino literature within the United States that embraces the heterogeneous inter-groupings of Latinos. For too long U.S. Latino literature has not been thought of as an integral part of the overall shared American literary landscape, but that is slowly changing. This dictionary aims to rectify some of those misconceptions by proving that Latinos do fundamentally express American issues, concerns and perspectives with a flair in linguistic cadences, familial themes, distinct world views, and cross-cultural voices. The Historical Dictionary of U.S. Latino Literature contains a chronology, an introduction, and an extensive bibliography. Bringing together a unique collection of narrative accounts based on the lived experience of queer Chicano/Mexicano sons, this book explores fathers, fathering, and fatherhood. In many ways, the contributors reveal the significance of fathering and representations of fatherhood in the context of queer male sexuality and identity across generations, cultures, class, and Mexican immigrant and Mexican American families. They further reveal how father figures—godfathers, grandfathers, and others—may nurture and express love and hope for the queer young men in their extended family. Divided into six sections, the book addresses the complexity of father-queer son relationships; family dynamics; the impact of neurodiverse mental health issues; the erotic, unsafe, and taboo qualities of desire; encounters with absent, estranged or emotionally distant fathers; and a critical analysis of father and queer son relationships in Chicano/Latino literature and film.

The meanings of "a hustler" or "a hustle" can be interpreted in many ways, but in gay urban society, the norm is young men providing sexual services to "customers" in exchange for money or other kinds of compensation such as gifts or intoxicants to their "boys." While it's easy for many to dismiss such individuals as scum of the streets (as with female prostitutes), hustlers often come from troubled backgrounds, and it's crucial that we not dehumanize them. As dartboards for the ills of contemporary society (poverty, racism/sexism, homophobia/transphobia, sexual/substance/physical abuse, mental illness, HIV/STDs, etc), young men and women that turn to the streets, alleys, cheap hotels and the Internet for survival are reflections and manifestations of a greater societal collapse.
