The important issue of rehabilitation is usually not reflected in the neurosurgical literature but left to publications on neurological rehabilitation or neuropsychological literature. However, it is the neurosurgeon who should care for the functional rehabilitation of patients who are disabled by movement disorders, spasticity, epilepsy, pain, and disorders of the vegetative state as they suffer from acute or chronic central nervous system, spinal cord and peripheral nerve lesions. "Research” and "Publishing” are phrases familiar to all neurosurgeons and neuroscientists. Many young neurosurgeons struggle with them on a trial-and-error basis at first, and there are not structured education programs providing information on standard methods. The European Association of Neurosurgical Societies Research Committee has developed a course on research and publication methods for residents in neurosurgery who have not yet completed training. These proceeding cover new trends presented at the IV Congress of the International Society of Reconstructive Neurosurgery (ISRN), 2015.
