Game Theoretic And Decision Theoretic Agents Gtdt 02

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Over the last few years, game and decision theories have proved to be powerful tools with which to design autonomous agents, and to understand interactions in systems composed of many such agents. Decision theory has been adopted as a paradigm for designing agents that can handle the uncertainty of any moderately complex environment, and act rationally to achieve their goals. Game theory, largely assuming the existence of self-interested agents, has been employed in the design of mechanisms and protocols for interaction, coordination, communication, negotiation, coalition formation, fair voting techniques, market-based resource management systems, and industrial- scale information economies. As a result, there seems to be much to gain from bringing together researchers interested in game theory and decision theory to present recent work on the application of these techniques in the construction of agent systems, and to discuss the cross-over between the fields. This has been bourne out by the three previous GTDT workshops. The fourth GTDT workshop will continue to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of results in game theory and decision theory applied to agent-based computing.

Game Theory And Decision Theory In Agent Based Systems

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Game Theory And Decision Theory In Agent-Based Systems is a collection of papers from international leading researchers, that offers a broad view of the many ways game theory and decision theory can be applied in agent-based systems, from standard applications of the core elements of the theory to more cutting edge developments. The range of topics discussed in this book provide the reader with the first comprehensive volume that reflects both the depth and breadth of work in applying techniques from game theory and decision theory to design agent-based systems. Chapters include: Selecting Partners; Evolution of Agents with Moral Sentiments in an IPD Exercise; Dynamic Desires; Emotions and Personality; Decision-Theoretic Approach to Game Theory; Shopbot Economics; Finding the Best Way to Join in; Shopbots and Pricebots in Electronic Service Markets; Polynomial Time Mechanisms; Multi-Agent Q-learning and Regression Trees; Satisficing Equilibria; Investigating Commitment Flexibility in Multi-agent Contracts; Pricing in Agent Economies using Multi-agent Q-learning; Using Hypergames to Increase Planned Payoff and Reduce Risk; Bilateral Negotiation with Incomplete and Uncertain Information; Robust Combinatorial Auction Protocol against False-name Bids.

Regulated Agent Based Social Systems

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book presents selected extended and reviewed versions of the papers accepted for the First International Workshop on Regulated Agent Systems: Theory and Applications, RASTA 2002, held in Bologna, Italy, in July 2002, as part of AAMAS 2002. In addition, several new papers on the workshop theme are included as well; these were submitted and reviewed in response to a further call for contributions. The construction of artificial agent societies deals with questions and problems that are already known from human societies. The 16 papers in this book establish an interdisciplinary community of social scientists and computer scientists devoting their research interests to exploiting social theories for the construction and regulation of multi-agent systems.
