Addressing Global Issues With Collective And Concerted Actions Indonesian Scholar Perspectives For The G20 Forum

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

As a compilation of research and scholarly articles under the auspices of Dewan Guru Besot (Board of Professors) of U niversitas Gadjah Mada, this volume is expected to contribute for the Sherpa Track of G20 forum. We believe that multi-disciplinary approach among university scholars would provide a comprehensive understanding on what to be considered by the G20 country leaders who are scheduled to meet in Bali, Indonesia, in 2022. Parallel to the three prioritized agendas for G20, critical reviews on health system after the Covid-19 global pandemic, changing activities and lifestyle under digitalized economy, and transition towards sustainable energy are presented. Cases are mostly taken from the Indonesian experience. We would argue that interdependency and partnership among countries are inevitable and that we must understand and acknowledge it more than ever. All the critical global issues—health, poverty, climate change—can only be addressed with collective actions of all individuals in developed as well as developing countries. The collective awareness of the new world order for healthy, smart, and green lifestyle is essential to the future living in the planet. The G20 forum is crucial as it represents 65 percent of the world population and 80 percent of the world economy. We hope that G20 leaders have a full commitment and capacity to conduct an orchestra of global community which enable and empower citizens while acknowledging cultural diversity in their respected countries. It is a high time for all of collective and concerted actions.

Corporate Social Responsibility Csr In International Business Nestle Unilever Shell And Tesla

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Academic Paper from the year 2022 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,0, Boston University, language: English, abstract: The paper analyzes four cases, Nestlé, Unilever, Shell, and Tesla, in terms of their performance on CSR. Nestlé, as the only negative example, shows the difficulty of CSR implementation. As a giant international food company, its social responsibilities strategies can be complex and meticulous. Even with small achievements in CSR, such as reducing carbon emissions and developing recycled packaging, the validity of more detailed data has been questioned. Unilever’s self-interest and altruism are realized together with the help of CSR strategies, which are constantly changing to adapt to the dynamic market. Unlike the strategic role of CSR for Unilever, Shell’s CSR acts as its only way to respond to the world’s focus, environmental protection, sustainability, etc. An established energy company like Shell has to implement CSR. It just happens to need to be on the CSR path because it has nowhere to go if it doesn’t. Tesla was born to be an example of CSR because its nature aligns with social responsibility, being environmentally friendly, opening patents, and leading the world's development. Each company has its own strategies and focus on CSR, and results vary. They show different roles that CSR could play in multinationals business.

Sapiens A Graphic History Volume 2

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The ebook is designed to be read on devices with large color displays The Kindle edition is incompatible with iOS. See below for a list of supported devices. This second volume of Sapiens: A Graphic History, the full-color graphic adaptation of Yuval Noah Harari’s #1 New York Times bestseller, focuses on the Agricultural Revolution—when humans fell into a trap we’ve yet to escape: working harder and harder with diminishing returns. What if humanity’s major woes—war, plague, famine and inequality—originated 12,000 years ago, when Homo sapiens converted from nomads to settlers, in pursuit of the fantasy of productivity and efficiency? What if by seeking to control plants and animals, humans ended up being controlled by kings, priests, and Kafkaesque bureaucracy? Volume 2 of Sapiens: A Graphic History–The Pillars of Civilization explores a crucial chapter in human development: the Agricultural Revolution. This is the story of how wheat took over the world; how an unlikely marriage between a god and a bureaucrat created the first empires; and how war, plague, famine, and inequality became an intractable feature of the human condition. But it’s not all doom and gloom with this book’s cast of entertaining characters and colorful humorous scenes. Yuval, Zoe, Prof. Saraswati, Cindy and Bill (now farmers), Detective Lopez, and Dr. Fiction, all introduced in Volume 1, once again travel the length and breadth of human history, this time investigating the impact the Agricultural Revolution has had on our species. The cunning Mephisto shows them how to ensnare humans, King Hammurabi lays down the law, and Confucius explains harmonious society. The origins of modern farming are introduced through Elizabethan tragedy; the changing fortunes of domesticated plants and animals are tracked in the columns of the Daily Business News; the story of urbanization is portrayed as a travel brochure, offering discount journeys to ancient Babylon and China; and the history of inequality unfolds in a superhero detective story; with guest appearances by historical and cultural personalities throughout such as Thomas Jefferson, Scarlett O'Hara, Margaret Thatcher, and John Lennon. Sapiens: A Graphic History, Volume 2 is a radical, witty and colorful retelling of the story of humankind for adults and young adults, and can be read on its own or in sequence with Volume I.
