The names 'Gog' and 'Magog' are found in the Old Testament, in the Pseud-Epigrapha and the Qumran-writings, in the Targums and in other Jewish texts, in the New Testament, in the wirtings of the Church Fathers, and even in the Koran. In most aof these texts Gog and Magog are persons or nations opposing God's people in the endtime-tribulations.Sverre Boe focuses on John's use of various Gog and Magog traditions in Revelation 19,17-20,10. He assembles all these traditions and also refers to several hundreds of scholarly works on these many texts. He further contributes to the ongoing discussions about the inter-textual relationship between Revelation and the Old Testament. He argues that John used Ezekiel 38-39 extensively, and that there are structural analogies beween Rev. 19,11-22,5 and Ezek. 36-48. Although Sverre Boe does not raise the fundamental questions about the co-called millennium in Rev. 20 as such, he givesmany implications for that issue also. Finally he concludes that Revelation does not see Gog and Magog as Israel's enemies in an ethnic sense, since John seems to universalize his pre-texts to fit the New Testament notion of God's people as comprising Christians of all nations.

The reliability of Sallam's journey from Samarra to Western China and back (842-45), however, has always been a highly contested issue. Van Donzel and Schmidt consider the travel account as historical. This volume presents a translation of the source while at the same time it carefully looks into other Eastern Christian and Muslim traditions of the famous lore. A comprehensive survey reconstructs the political and topographical data. As so many other examples, also this story pays witness to the influence of the Syriac Christian tradition on Koran and Muslim Traditions.

The characters Gog and Magog are well-known characters in all religious beliefs, albeit with different names. But the widest knowledge about them is found in the Islamic faith. In the Islamic faith, their names are Yecuc and Mecuc. Information about them is given in two suras of the last holy book, the Quran. In addition, the words of the last prophet Muhammad about them also give us information. However, both the verses in the Quran about them and what the Prophet Muhammad said do not contain clear information about who or what they are. Many books have been written to date about who they may be. However, there is no information in these books that goes beyond mythological stories. In this book, a different method was followed. The figures are constantly reinterpreted as the figures of the enemies of order change: for the Persians of Ferdowsi's time they are Turks, for contemporary Israelis they are Arabs, and so on. This work deals with Gog and Magog in Indonesia, the Persian-speaking and Arabic-speaking worlds, and in the West, in classical and contemporary cultures.

Ezekiel was one of the four great prophets and son of the priest Buzi. Eleven years before Jerusalem was totally destroyed by the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar’s army, there was another captivity in 597 BC, where the young Ezekiel is led to the great city of Babylon (2 Kings 23:36-37, 24:8-16 , 2 Chronicles 36:5-10). Until then there had been several captivities which were dismembering the people of Israel since the time of the Assyrians. Ezekiel prophesied from exile and telling his countrymen to forget about returning to their homeland, as Jerusalem would soon be razed to the ground and should begin another 70-year period of captivity. For those present it was difficult to admit that God’s Temple (center of national worship) would be burned down, but God warned them to stop listening to false prophets—as there are always some—who were speaking about a false coming peace, prosperity, and prompt reconciliation. It was really a time to gather the badly seeded during years left behind. Amid so much tragedy God reveals to the Prophet what would happen at the End of Times and the last invasion which would trigger the Third World War, followed by the establishment of everlasting righteousness and divine promise.
