BOOK EXCERPT:

Paul Williams is an alcoholic. Tracey Jackson is not. But together, these two close friends have written Gratitude and Trust, a book designed to apply the principles of the recovery movement to the countless people who are not addicts but nevertheless need effective help with their difficulties and pain. Williams, the award-winning songwriter, actor, and performer, has embraced a traditional alcoholism recovery plan for more than two decades of sobriety. Jackson, a well-known TV and film writer—and veteran of many years of traditional therapy—has never been a drunk or a drug abuser, but she realized that many of the tenets of Williams’s program could apply to her. In Gratitude and Trust, Williams and Jackson ask: What happens to those who struggle with vexing problems yet are not full-blown addicts? Are there any lessons to be learned from the foundational and time-tested principles of the recovery movement? Whether you’re tethered to your phone or you turn to food for comfort; whether you’re a perfectionist and can’t let things go or are too afraid to fail to even try; whether you can find intimacy only on the Internet or you’ve been involved in a string of nasty relationships—the first step toward feeling better about yourself and your life is the realization that you are what’s standing in your way. Williams and Jackson have designed a new, positive program, based on a half-dozen new affirmations, that can help conquer your vices, address personal dysfunction, and start to brighten the darkest moods. Gratitude and Trust is an essential, inspirational, and uplifting guide to identifying and changing maladaptive behaviors in order to uncover your most productive, healthiest self.

Gratitude Trust Intimacy And Love

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Intimacy is the freedom to be exactly who you are with your best friend and with each other. Gratitude, Trust, Intimacy, and Love are the critical tools we need to exercise, which promotes creating the reality we see and experience. This allows one to root out negative thinking and transform our lives with an abundance of joy on all levels. It is about how we live amid the suffering from wars and violence, and not properly taking care of ourselves, our environment, or our animals that share this planet. We need to take care of ourselves so others can learn from us, because we are the role models for the next generation, and we conquer the challenges of each day by reflecting on something we feel grateful for. Says author Antoinette Abbamonte: “As an actress who happens to be deaf, I have been transforming myself with the best methods of how to cope with life. It became clear to me that my destiny is to be a role model and to show others how to handle themselves in life with whatever scenario, by dealing with negative energy by first establishing the foundation of taking care of yourself.” Part of her education included attending a school for the deaf, but she initially learned ASL (American Sign Language) from her deaf parents, and refers to it as her first language. This insightful book was written for children and adults alike.

Trust

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Trust and trustworthiness are core social phenomena, at the heart of most everyday interactions. Yet they are also puzzling: while it matters to us that we place trust well, trusting people who will not let us down, both also seem to involve morally driven attitudes and behaviours. Confronted by whether I should trust another, this tension creates very practical dilemmas. In Trust, Thomas Simpson addresses the foundational question, why should I trust? Philosophical treatments of trust have tended to focus on trying to identify what the attitude of trust consists in. Simpson argues that this approach is misguided, giving rise to merely linguistic debates about how the term 'trust' is used. Instead, he focuses attention on the ways that trust is valuable. The answer defended comprises two claims, which at first seem to be in tension. One is a form of evidentialism about trust: normally, your trust should be based on the evidence you have for someone's trustworthiness. But, second, someone's word is normally enough to settle for you whether you should trust them. Social norms of trustworthiness explain why both are normal. Methodologically innovative, Trust also applies the account , addressing how cultures of trust can be sustained, and the implications of trust in God. While it is a philosophical essay, the book is written in a way that presumes no prior knowledge of philosophy, to be accessible to the scholars from the many disciplines also attracted and puzzled by trust.

Psychological Support By Cognitive Behavioral Therapy For Lissencephaly

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book, Psychological Support by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Lissencephaly, was born out of the need to address the complex emotional and psychological challenges faced by individuals and families affected by lissencephaly, a rare but profoundly impactful neurological condition. Lissencephaly, characterized by an absence of normal brain folds, often brings a unique array of physical, developmental, and emotional challenges. These challenges extend beyond the individual, affecting families, caregivers, and even communities. This book aims to provide a comprehensive guide to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and its application for supporting mental health and resilience within this context. Each section has been crafted with a dual purpose: to offer a thorough understanding of the biological, genetic, and psychological aspects of lissencephaly and to introduce actionable, evidence-based CBT strategies tailored to the specific needs arising from this condition. This book explores essential foundations, from understanding genetic and epigenetic influences to practical therapeutic approaches, coping mechanisms, and tools for pain management. Given the chronic and often unpredictable nature of lissencephaly, mental health support becomes critical. While we often address physical symptoms and medical treatments, emotional health, too, requires a compassionate, structured approach. CBT offers a powerful method for navigating the internal and external realities faced by those affected. It enables individuals to confront negative thinking patterns, build resilience, and find meaning even amid difficult circumstances. Whether you are a healthcare professional, caregiver, family member, or individual seeking understanding, it is my hope that this book provides practical and compassionate insights. As you turn these pages, may you find tools that empower, strategies that support healing, and encouragement to foster resilience. Together, we can create a support system that helps individuals affected by lissencephaly lead lives filled with hope, strength, and dignity.
