The Pentagon is poised to begin development of a new generation of long range delivery systems. Such systems may be more dangerous than proposed improvements in nuclear warheads. At the same time, the gov¿t. is considering options for replacement of the intercontinental ballistic missiles that are the core of the U.S. nuclear arsenal. New delivery systems for nuclear weapons would involve many of the same technologies, from more maneuverable re-entry vehicles to improvements in guidance systems, that would be developed for long-range missiles carrying non-nuclear payloads. These technologies could provide the building blocks for new nuclear capabilities.

The advantages of employing evidence-based practices (EBPs) are now widely acknowledged across the medical, substance abuse, & mental health fields. This overview paper discusses EBPs & their role in the treatment of co-occurring disorders (COD). Practitioners seldom have as much evidence as they would like about the best clinical approach to use in any given clinical situation. This paper discusses EBPs & their use in treating persons with COD, discusses how evidence is used to determine if a given practice should be labeled as evidence based, & gives some brief examples of EBPs for COD. Livestock production contributed $123 billion to the U.S. economy in 2006. In response to concerns about animal disease outbreaks, the U.S. Dept. of Ag. (USDA) announced in Dec. 2003 that it would implement a nationwide program -- the Nat. Animal Identification System (NAIS) -- to help producers and animal health officials respond quickly and effectively to animal disease events. This report determined: (1) how effectively USDA is implementing NAIS and the key issues identified by livestock industry groups, market operators, state officials, and others; (2) how USDA has distributed coop. agree. funds to help states and industry prepare for NAIS and evaluated the agreements¿ results; and (3) what are the costs to implement NAIS. Long-run changes in total hrs. of work (HoW) in OECD countries exceed the variation of hrs. worked over the bus. cycle in a representative country by almost an order of magnitude. If understanding changes in HoW for the magnitude of bus. cycle fluctuations is an important policy concern, then understanding the sources of these trend differences is also crucial. The authors describe the steep decline in avg. hrs. worked & the large variation across countries in the magnitude of this decline.
