The Oxford Handbook Of Emotion Dysregulation

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Emotion dysregulation, which is often defined as the inability to modulate strong negative affective states including impulsivity, anger, fear, sadness, and anxiety, is observed in nearly all psychiatric disorders. These include internalizing disorders such as panic disorder and major depression, externalizing disorders such as conduct disorder and antisocial personality disorder, and various others including schizophrenia, autism, and borderline personality disorder. Among many affected individuals, precursors to emotion dysregulation appear early in development, and often predate the emergence of diagnosable psychopathology. The Oxford Handbook of Emotion Dysregulation brings together experts whose work cuts across levels of analysis, including neurobiological, cognitive, and social, in studying emotion dysregulation. Contributing authors describe how early environmental risk exposures shape emotion dysregulation, how emotion dysregulation manifests in various forms of mental illness, and how emotion dysregulation is most effectively assessed and treated. Conceptualizing emotion dysregulation as a core vulnerability to psychopathology is consistent with modern transdiagnostic approaches to diagnosis and treatment, including the Research Domain Criteria and the Unified Protocol, respectively. This handbook is the first text to assemble a highly accomplished group of authors to address conceptual issues in emotion dysregulation research, define the emotion dysregulation construct across levels of cognition, behavior, and social dynamics, describe cutting edge assessment techniques at neural, psychophysiological, and behavioral levels of analysis, and present contemporary treatment strategies.

I Know Whom I Have Believed

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

From foreword: This book is a collection of my articles which had been published in theological journals in Indonesia such as ―Verbum Christi‖ and ―Jurnal Teologi Reformed Indonesia (JTRI).‖ There are five articles, some of them are writings on Christian apologetics particularly in Van Tillian presuppositionalism perspective. These papers are not arranged according to the dates of their publications but they are managed according to the topics in which the apologetics writings are placed in the first three chapters. The significance of Van Tillian apologetics to Muslims is the first chapter, then the second chapter speaking on Christian response to the idea of non-duality of Shankara, the great thinker of Hinduism. The third deals with the value of propositional truths in maintaining Christian faith. The last two papers are, first, my research on the polemic about the covenant of grace that happened within Reformed Churches in Netherlands (RCN) in 1940s, and the second discusses about emotion and its relevance to Christian church today. I would like to thank to the editors of Verbum Christi and the JTRI for their permission to republish these materials. Also, thank to the peer reviewers of both journals who make these papers better and academically suitable.

BOOK EXCERPT:

Dark Emotions is a book about a range of emotional experiences that are often regarded or characterized as ‘negative’, ‘disturbing’ or ‘dark’ as contrasted with emotions that are ‘positive’, ‘pleasant’ or ‘light’. Each chapter in the book is devoted to introducing different ‘dark emotions’ such as disappointment, betrayal, worry, regret, resentment and alienation and seeks to show – through conceptual, theoretical and empirical examples – how these emotions influence peoples’ lives and their relations to self, others and society. The book thus provides an overview of some dark emotions that are recognizable in our everyday lives and culture. It contains accessible introductions and relevant theoretical and empirical research on 12 different kinds of ‘dark emotions’. The chapters are highly useful for teaching sessions and research contexts. Additionally, they provide extensive lists of references for further reading. The book will be particularly useful for students or scholars with an interest in emotion research or related areas, and the book may inspire further investigation of the often- overlooked emotions presented in this volume.
