BOOK EXCERPT:
In March 1997, thirty-nine people in Rancho Santa Fe, California, ritually terminated their lives. To outsiders, it was a mass suicide. To insiders, it was a graduation. The author explores the question of why the members of Heaven's Gate committed ritual suicides, and examines the origin and evolution of the religion, its appeal, and practices.

BOOK EXCERPT:
On March 26, 1997, the bodies of 39 men and women were found in an opulent mansion outside San Diego, all victims of a mass suicide. Messages left by the Heaven's Gate group indicate that they believed they were stepping out of their 'physical containers' in order to ascend to a UFO that was arriving in the wake of the Hale-Bopp comet. The Heaven's Gate suicides were part of a series of major incidents involving New Religions in the 1990s, as the new millennium approached. Despite the major attention that Heaven's Gate attracted at the time of the suicides, there have been relatively few scholarly studies. This anthology on Heaven's Gate includes a combination of articles previously published in academic journals, some new writings from experts in the field, and some original Heaven's Gate documents. All the material is expertly brought together under the editorship of George D. Chryssides.

BOOK EXCERPT:
GENERAL RELATIVITY THEORY Einstein bridges / Podolsky/Rosen ( Worm holes or gray hole ) He extends the north over the void. Hangs up the earth over nothing… And he opened the abysm shaft, and from the shaft, smoke came out like the smoke from a big oven; and the sun and the air became dark because of the smoke from the shaft. And from the smoke lobsters came out over the earth… (Job. 26:7; Ap. 9:2) There are three types of cosmic bridges in the Universe, these are: 1. Gray holes; 2. Black holes; 3. White holes or quasars. What are the gray holes? The gray holes of the Universe are in the north magnetic pole of each planet of the Universe. Terrestrial scientists in their announcement of the “Worm Hole” of the General Relativity Theory already know by intuition the existence of those tunnels in each aster of the Universe. What are the black holes? From where the gravitational forces which act in its interior come from? The black holes are cosmic drains like tunnels, of short distance, which flow into other universe, in other dimensional level. A star is constituted by twenty five material spheres contained one into the other in different dimensional levels. In the explosion of a star, in the physical plan, its only disintegrated the sphere which corresponds to that plane, the others still occupy their original position, without being affected by the explosion. The magnetic forces which act and transform the black hole in a cosmic drain come from the masses of the twenty four spheres which, from another dimensional level, are still occupying the position of the star which exploded. It could be said the acting gravitational forces in the black hole come from, in another dimension, the soul of the star which died. The soul of the star is constituted by dark material.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Jesus' promise that "the end" draws near has spawned an expectation of that grand event across various religious groups. This volume examines the abiding social issues that surround the continued presence of apocalyptic anticipation by setting them in historical, present-day, and future manifestations. Approaching this fervent expectation from a broad perspective, Gribben and Newport explore the contemporary movements with insightful analysis that provokes discussion and even self-reflection.

BOOK EXCERPT:
What is the role of religion in creating the rules of society? What should religion's role be? Religion in industrialized countries often appears as a private, personal matter while issues of social justice are worked out in a secular public sphere. But increasingly both policymakers and religious leaders are becoming aware of the role religious values play at the local, national and international levels. Religion and Social Policy explores how religious concerns influence those who shape and those who are shaped by policies. It queries the social teachings of global denominations and local congregations, as well as the implicit religious stances taken by national governments and international NGOs. Broad issues such as religious tolerance, globalization, multiculturalism, gender roles and economic inequality are carefully grounded with practical examples. For students of religion, sociology, politics or public policy, Religion and Social Policy offers an excellent overview of how the sacred and the secular mix in both the theory and practice of creating a just society. BOOK EXCERPT:
This is a story of what could have happend to the 39 members of Heaven's Gate shortly after exiting their earthly vehicles and bording a spacecraft cloaked inside the tail of the Hale-Bopp comet. As they awaken from transport sleep, Ti welcomes them aboard the Comet-craft Hale-Bopp. Confusion, awe, and wonder await the crew members as they travel throughout the galaxies on their journey to Planet Heaven and beyond. My story is a combination of different subjects: personal, Biblical, fact, and science fiction. A written memorial for the people of Heaven's Gate who gave up their lives for what they believed. Before you judge them, look inside your own heart and ask yourself this question: What would you be willing to die for - religion, freedom, country, honor or perhaps something else?
