Herbert McCabe struck those who met him (Alasdair MacIntyre, Anthony Kenny, Terry Eagleton, Denys Turner) or those who read his writings (David Burrell, Stanley Hauerwas) for his high intelligence. He was the most intelligent philosopher after the death of Karl Popper. James McCabe and Ann Pettigrew arrived in Pictou, Halifax Co., Nova Scotia around 1767. James was born in Ireland and died at West River sometime between 21 August and 17 November 1801. McCabe families are found in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Maine, California, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oregon and Rhode Island in the United States.
