This book highlights new trends and challenges in intelligent systems, which play an important part in the digital transformation of many areas of science and practice. It includes papers offering a deeper understanding of the human-centred perspective on artificial intelligence, of intelligent value co-creation, ethics, value-oriented digital models, transparency, and intelligent digital architectures and engineering to support digital services and intelligent systems, the transformation of structures in digital businesses and intelligent systems based on human practices, as well as the study of interaction and the co-adaptation of humans and systems. All papers were originally presented at the International KES Conference on Human Centred Intelligent Systems 2020 (KES HCIS 2020), held on June 17–19, 2020, in Split, Croatia.

Artificial intelligence has, traditionally focused on solving human-centered problems like natural language processing or common-sense reasoning. On the other hand, for a while now soft computing has been applied successfully in areas like pattern recognition, clustering, or automatic control. The papers in this book explore the possibility of bringing these two areas together. This book is unique in the way it concentrates on building intelligent software systems by combining methods from diverse disciplines, such as fuzzy set theory, neuroscience, agent technology, knowledge discovery, and symbolic artificial intelligence. The first part of the book focuses on foundational aspects and future directions; the second part provides the reader with an overview of recently developed software tools for building flexible intelligent systems; the final section studies developed applications in various fields.

This book states that intelligent digital transformation is the process of using artificial intelligence techniques in digital technologies such as machine learning, natural language processing, automation and robotics to transform existing non-digital business processes and services to meet with the evolving market and customer expectations. This book including 26 chapters, each written by their experts, focuses on revealing the reflection of digital transformation in our business and social life under emerging conditions through intelligent systems. Intelligent digital transformation examples from almost all sectors including health, education, manufacturing, tourism, insurance, smart cities, banking, energy and transportation are introduced by theory and applications. Zusammenfassung: This book investigates the potential of combining the more quantitative - data-driven techniques with the more qualitative - theory-driven approaches towards the design of user-centred intelligent systems. It seeks to explore the potential of incorporating factors grounded in psychological theory into adaptive/intelligent routines, mechanisms, technologies and innovations. It highlights models, methods and tools that are emerging from their convergence along with challenges and lessons learned.
