BOOK EXCERPT:
This new interdisciplinary treatise on the unusual features of literary and cultural items connected with the ancient idea of "translation" including the motif of ascension as a phenomenon complete with its own premises, literary and narratological conceits, but one that has been understudied as an influence on Western culture, religion and its literary production. Professor Sorensen has completed a wide-ranging study and made some surprising conclusions as to the full weight and impact of this religious motif in medieval, Renaissance, Classical and Modern literature and art. "The work is one of great cultural and aesthetic value." -Professor Andrew Woznecki, Fleischacker Professor of Philosophy, University of San Francisco

BOOK EXCERPT:
Key second-temple texts with introductions and notes by an international team of scholars--now available in affordable softcover bindings. The writers of the Bible lived in a world filled with many writings. Some of these documents are lost forever, but many have been preserved. Part of these extant sources are the Pseudepigrapha. This collection of Jewish and Christian writings shed light on early Judaism and Christianity and their doctrines. This landmark set includes all 65 Pseudepigraphical documents from the intertestamental period that reveal the ongoing development of Judaism and the roots from which the Christian religion took its beliefs. A scholarly authority on each text contributes a translation, introduction, and critical notes for each text. Volume 1 features apocalyptic literature and testaments. Volume 2 includes expansions of the "Old Testament" legends, wisdom, and philosophical literature; prayers, psalms, and odes; and fragments of lost Judeo-Hellenistic Works. Contributors include E. Isaac, B.M. Metzger, J.R. Mueller, S.E. Robinson, D.J. Harrington, G.T. Zervos, and many others. Of enormous value to scholars and students, religious professionals and interested laypeople. Part of Anchor Yale Reference Library.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Ascension Now examines the New Testament references to the ascension and exhaltation of Jesus and looks at the theological and liturgical implications. This includes not only the description of the "event" in the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles but also the departure scene that concludes the Gospel of Matthew and the references to Christ as King, as Intercessor, and as "exalted in glory" elsewhere in the New Testament. It also notes the implications for Christians who pray and preach and foreshadows some developments in worship and practical living in the light of the ascension experience. The doctrine of the ascension of Christ is important to theological debates and to the liturgical developments of the Christian Churches. Unless we connect the Christ of history with the Christ of worship, we will fail to hold together the two essential poles of the Christian faith. Christ must be both in time and beyond time. He must have been in history and been more than just a historical figure. He must be both fully human and fully God. Only then can Christ be the object of our faith and our worship. The ascension of Jesus can be seen as the journey of the humanity of Christ into the heart of the Divine God and of our journey in worship into the divine dimension of heaven. In Ascension Now, Bishop Atkins shows that in our worship we are never earthbound; we lift our hearts and minds up to where Christ is seated, symbolically reigning over the world. There he holds them tenderly in love as, through his redemptive power, we are transformed and renewed to fulfill the purposes of its Creator God. Chapters are "Introduction: The Importance of the Doctrine of the Ascension for Today's Church," "Prelude: New Ways of Seeing the Ascension," "The Biblical Evidence for the Doctrine of the Ascension," "The Theological Implications of the Doctrine of the Ascension," "The Liturgical Implications of the Doctrine of the Ascension," "The Implications of the Ascension for Our Personal Prayers," "The Implications of the Doctrine of the Ascension for Preaching," "The Implications of the Doctrine of the Ascension for Future Liturgical Practice," "Conclusion: Personal Implications of the Doctrine of the Ascension," and "Appendix: The Geography of the Ascension."

BOOK EXCERPT:
David K. Miller has teamed up with Torah scholar and Kabbalist expert Mordechai Yashin, who resides in Jerusalem, Israel, to bring you A New Tree of Life for Planetary Ascension, which is based on unique lectures and classes David and Mordechai gave over an eight-month period between 2012 and 2013. It functions as a manual explaining the Kabbalistic Tree of Life and the Arcturian Planetary Tree of Life, which is an expansion of the concepts contained in the Kabbalistic tree. The idea behind the Arcturian Planetary Tree of Life is to demonstrate through a paradigm shift how planetary energies can be used to rebalance our planet. The basic assumption is that Earth is currently unbalanced due to a variety of factors, including environmental contamination, global warming, and usage and extinctions of forests and ocean life on a mass basis. It must be pointed out that David has been working with the Arcturians to further upgrade the Planetary Tree of Life. This upgrade includes one completely new sphere that relates to the ascension and to the fifth dimension. This new sphere will be described in detail to explain how to use the new energy. Includes: Great pictorial descriptions of the Hebrew letters Detailed Kabbalistic map and paradigm of the Tree of Life Hebrew terminology and numbers relating to the Tree of Life Featured channelings through David K. Miller
