In the era of precision oncology, liquid biopsy techniques, specifically the use of circulating tumor cells (CTCs), cell free circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) and extracellular vesicles particularly exosomes, represent a paradigm shift in the conventional use of tissue based biomarkers. Compared to tissue biopsy, liquid biopsy is cost-effective, readily accessible and less invasive, minimizing the bias of sampling and offering the opportunity for serial monitoring. Circulating biomarkers detected in liquid biopsy (blood and urine, etc.) are helping in understanding cancer genomic landscape and evolution, thus have been largely studied in term of cancer screening, risk stratification and early detection of minimal residual disease. Castration-resistant prostate cancers (CRPCs) are the late stage of prostate cancers. With significant progress towards the treatment of CRPCs, for example, androgen receptor-signalling (ARS) targeted therapy and immunotherapy, there is an urgent need to identify novel biomarkers to improve the survival rate and prognosis of CRPCs. The study of such biomarkers associated signal pathways and immune status has become a major focus in research to help understanding the responses to drug resistance and ineffective treatments. The discovery of these biomarkers in selecting potentially responsive patients will improve outcomes, and reduce treatment costs and, most importantly, significantly improve patient’s quality of life.

Involved in nearly every therapeutic area, particularly cancer, biomarkers have experienced tremendous advances since the first edition of this book, both in the discovery of biomarkers and in their applications. To aid in this imperative research, Prof. Kewal K. Jain’s Handbook of Biomarkers, Second Edition features a full revision and additional chapters to thoroughly describe many different types of biomarkers and their discovery using various "-omics" technologies, along with the background information needed for the evaluation of biomarkers as well as the essential procedures for their validation and use in clinical trials. With biomarkers described first according to technologies and then according to various diseases, this detailed book features the key correlations between diseases and classifications of biomarkers, which provides the reader with a guide to sort out current and future biomarkers. Comprehensive and cutting-edge, The Handbook of Biomarkers, Second Edition serves as a vital guide to furthering our understanding of biomarkers, which, by facilitating the combination of therapeutics with diagnostics, promise to play an important role in the development of personalized medicine, one of the most important trends in healthcare today.

The AACR Annual Meeting is a must-attend event for cancer researchers and the broader cancer community. This year's theme, "Delivering Cures Through Cancer Science," reinforces the inextricable link between research and advances in patient care. The theme will be evident throughout the meeting as the latest, most exciting discoveries are presented in every area of cancer research. There will be a number of presentations that include exciting new data from cutting-edge clinical trials as well as companion presentations that spotlight the science behind the trials and implications for delivering improved care to patients. This book contains abstracts 1-2696 presented on April 17-18, 2016, at the AACR Annual Meeting.

In this first book to provide an overview of applications of proteomics in the discovery of new diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic targets, a team of international specialists from research institutions, hospitals and companies contribute with their specific expertise. They cover a wide range of example applications for the most important diseases, such as heart and cardiovascular disorders, cancer, pharmatoxicology, infectious diseases and diseases of the nervous system. Denis Hochstrasser is an eminent scientist in the field of bioinformatics and proteomics and one of the founders of the Swiss Prot Databank as well as of the Swiss biotech company Genebio.

Right before the COVID-19 pandemic declared by the World Health Organization (WHO), life sciences have incited novel areas of studies that revolutionize the health sector. They are the studies of structural bioinformatics, pharmacogenomics, and metabolomics. The structural bioinformatics field is the very foundation of drug design research, as it provides insight into the molecular simulations and interactions between the biomolecules and the drug candidates. Secondly, pharmacogenomics is the starting point of any efforts in developing personalized medicine. Lastly, metabolomics provides instrumentation to elicit biomarkers for various diseases and health conditions. These studies have enabled current accelerated effort in COVID-19 research, as well as other communicable and non-communicable diseases.
