A modern introduction to the field, Neuroimaging of the Auditory and Vestibular Systems: A Clinician’s Guide is a comprehensive resource for audiologists, neurologists, radiologists, otolaryngologists, and neurotologists. This text equips clinicians with the knowledge of imaging modalities used to evaluate conditions affecting the auditory and vestibular systems, promoting efficient and effective patient care. Clinicians will be provided with information about the anatomy and physiology of the auditory and vestibular systems, as well as, the fundamental concepts, indications, and utility of neuroimaging of this region to distinguish pathology from normal anatomy. This text also systematically describes common pathologic conditions found in the ear and lateral skull base beginning with the external ear and ending with the central nervous system. Each condition is described in terms of an overview, medical evaluation, audiological evaluation, imaging modalities and findings, and treatment considerations. Through the study of each of these anatomy-themed chapters of the auditory and vestibular system, clinicians can gain competence and confidence in differentiating pathologic conditions that may present in similar locations with similar symptoms yet have different imaging finding. The integration of transdisciplinary perspectives into the text makes this a special addition to the market. Written by a team of distinguished professionals, every chapter will include relevant and up-to-date material on the use of neuroimaging modalities to optimize auditory and vestibular healthcare, and is widely applicable to diverse clinicians in the field. The emphasis on the importance of incorporating and interpreting neuroimaging in clinical practice can enhance collaborative communication and patient care. Key Features * Anatomy-based description of common pathologic conditions * Comprehensive depiction of pathology through detailed complementary MRI and CT images * Presentation of audiological findings that correlate with clinical scenarios * Foreword written by Frank E. Musiek, PhD, CCC-A (Ret.) Transdisciplinary and multi-institutional contributions from experts in audiology, otolaryngology, neurotology, and radiology From the Foreword "Graduate students in audiology, the neurosciences, as well as residents in otolaryngology, neurology and neurosurgery and those professionals practicing in these areas will find this text informative, relevant, and useable. I can see this book becoming the “go to” resource and guide for those professionals in the clinical setting serving patients with disorders of the auditory and vestibular systems." —Frank E. Musiek, PhD, CCC-A (Ret.)

The13thInternationalConferenceonMedicalImageComputingandComputer- Assisted Intervention, MICCAI 2010, was held in Beijing, China from 20-24 September,2010.ThevenuewastheChinaNationalConventionCenter(CNCC), China’slargestandnewestconferencecenterwith excellentfacilities andaprime location in the heart of the Olympic Green, adjacent to characteristic constr- tions like the Bird’s Nest (National Stadium) and the Water Cube (National Aquatics Center). MICCAI is the foremost international scienti?c event in the ?eld of medical image computing and computer-assisted interventions. The annual conference has a high scienti?c standard by virtue of the threshold for acceptance, and accordingly MICCAI has built up a track record of attracting leading scientists, engineersandcliniciansfromawiderangeoftechnicalandbiomedicaldisciplines. This year, we received 786 submissions, well in line with the previous two conferences in New York and London. Three program chairs and a program committee of 31 scientists, all with a recognized standing in the ?eld of the conference, were responsible for the selection of the papers. The review process was set up such that each paper was considered by the three program chairs, two program committee members, and a minimum of three external reviewers. The review process was double-blind, so the reviewers did not know the identity of the authors of the submission. After a careful evaluation procedure, in which all controversialand gray area papers were discussed individually, we arrived at a total of 251 accepted papers for MICCAI 2010, of which 45 were selected for podium presentation and 206 for poster presentation. The acceptance percentage (32%) was in keeping with that of previous MICCAI conferences. All 251 papers are included in the three MICCAI 2010 LNCS volumes.

Vertigo, dizziness, and imbalance rank amongst the most common presenting symptoms in neurology, ENT, geriatric medicine, and general practice. These symptoms can originate from many different organs and systems, such as the inner ear, general medical conditions, and neurological and psychological disorders. The Oxford Textbook of Vertigo and Imbalance covers the scientific basis, clinical diagnosis, and treatments for the disorders leading to dizziness and poor balance. Each chapter comprehensively covers the established knowledge of each disorder, as well as introducing the reader to the latest research aspects. Additionally, the specialist authors offer their own clinical opinions based on practice and experience. Didactic tables, figures, and diagrams are used throughout this volume to enhance understanding. The print edition is complemented by an online version, which allows access to the full content of the textbook, contains links from the references to primary research journal articles, allows full text searches, and provides access to figures and tables that can be downloaded to PowerPointRG.

Neuroimaging, Part Two, a volume in The Handbook of Clinical Neurology series, illustrates how neuroimaging is rapidly expanding its reach and applications in clinical neurology. It is an ideal resource for anyone interested in the study of the nervous system, and is useful to both beginners in various related fields and to specialists who want to update or refresh their knowledge base on neuroimaging. This second volume covers imaging of the adult spine and peripheral nervous system, as well as pediatric neuroimaging. In addition, it provides an overview of the differential diagnosis of the most common imaging findings, such as ring enhancement on MRI, and a review of the indications for imaging in the most frequent neurological syndromes. The volume concludes with a review of neuroimaging in experimental animals and how it relates to neuropathology. It brings broad coverage of the topic using many color images to illustrate key points. Contributions from leading global experts are collated, providing the broadest view of neuroimaging as it currently stands. For a number of neurological disorders, imaging is not only critical for diagnosis, but also for monitoring the effect of therapies, with the entire field moving from curing diseases to preventing them. Most of the information contained in this volume reflects the newness of this approach, pointing to the new horizon in the study of neurological disorders. - Provides a relevant description of the technologies used in neuroimaging, such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography, and several others - Discusses the application of these techniques to the study of brain and spinal cord disease - Explores the indications for the use of these techniques in various syndromes
