Having previously been PK'ed out of the game, Ray continues his quest to level up and press ahead, But in the background, political maneuverings cause the game's top players to make their presence known.

In the year 2043, Infinite Dendrogram, the world's first successful full-dive VRMMO was released. In addition to its ability to perfectly simulate the five senses, along with its many other amazing features, the game promised to offer players a world full of infinite possibilities. Nearly two years later, soon-to-be college freshman, Reiji Mukudori, is finally able to buy a copy of the game and start playing. With some help from his experienced older brother, Shu, and his partner Embryo, Reiji embarks on an adventure into the world of Infinite Dendrogram. Just what will he discover and encounter in this game world known for its incredible realism and infinite possibilities?

While walking the streets of Gideon, Ray encounters a band of hoodlums harassing a young woman. During the conflict he meets a flamboyant new ally named Hugo, and the two decide to co-operate in order to take down a nefarious criminal group known as the Gouz-Maise gang. But little did Ray know that this seemingly simple rescue mission would cement just how gruesome a reality the world of Infinite Dendrogram could become.

The City of Duels remains under siege, the situation worsening by the moment. Ray Starling takes his battle outside the city walls to stop the mastermind behind it all... But with Franklin’s menacing RSK standing in his way, Ray may have finally met his match! And even if he can overcome this insurmountable threat, will he be prepared for the Giga Professor’s “Plan C”?

Ray might be on his way to defeating the Gous-Maiz gang, but there's never another crisis far away... or the promise of gladitorial combat. Remember: Just because it's not real, that doesn't meant it won't hurt!

Dryfe offers an olive branch to Altar, but just what will the price of peace truly be? Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst, the Altarian government begins its preparation for the coming negotiations. Altimia needs to decide on her kingdom's terms and gather her retinue, while Ray needs to choose a new job and join a clan in case the talks go sour. Of course, the imperium isn't just resting on its laurels, either. As its leaders craft their plans, a vorpal blade flashes in the darkness, and a rabbit-shaped shadow hops out of the northern land on a top-secret mission to the southern kingdom...

Ray finds himself kidnapped by The Lunar Society, and is approached by their spiritual leader and the last Superior of the kingdom -- High Priestess, Tsukuyo Fuso, who begins to unfurl her nefarious scheme.

Things are heating up in the City of Duels! A challenger comes from the eastern nation of Huang He to duel Figaro, the local legend. Naturally the city decides to make a spectacle of it, and Ray just so happens to have front row seats! Both of these Masters wield powerful Superior Embryos, and both intend to give their all to fight, make merry and emerge victorious! Just who will be left standing by the end of their ferocious encounter?

You know how it is: show up, destroy a band of necromancers, defeat the boss, and go home to blow your winnings at the gacha spinner. Too bad Ray never has it so easy, and this time, the boss left behind a trap turning the local bandits into a gigantic, gruesome, grudge-powered gross-out monster - with his own soul at the center. Can Ray figure out how to take it out on his own? And wait, why's there a flashback?! Watch out for that truck!
