Information Theory For Data Communications And Processing

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Modern, current, and future communications/processing aspects motivate basic information-theoretic research for a wide variety of systems for which we do not have the ultimate theoretical solutions (for example, a variety of problems in network information theory as the broadcast/interference and relay channels, which mostly remain unsolved in terms of determining capacity regions and the like). Technologies such as 5/6G cellular communications, Internet of Things (IoT), and mobile edge networks, among others, not only require reliable rates of information measured by the relevant capacity and capacity regions, but are also subject to issues such as latency vs. reliability, availability of system state information, priority of information, secrecy demands, energy consumption per mobile equipment, sharing of communications resources (time/frequency/space), etc. This book, composed of a collection of papers that have appeared in the Special Issue of the Entropy journal dedicated to “Information Theory for Data Communications and Processing”, reflects, in its eleven chapters, novel contributions based on the firm basic grounds of information theory. The book chapters address timely theoretical and practical aspects that constitute both interesting and relevant theoretical contributions, as well as direct implications for modern current and future communications systems.

amount of new knowledge every day. We have to acknowledge that even the smartest people among us are incapable of familiarizing himself with all these new data. Fortunately, we are only required to deal with a very small amount of that vast number in our work and life. As those who devote himself to the field of information technology and management engineering, I sincerely believe that it is our responsibility to make efforts to accelerate the advance of science in such fields. The 2014 international Conference on Information Technology and Management Engineering, thanks to the hard work of its committee, will be held on April 26 and 27 in Hong Kong. The ITME2014 covers a wide range of topics such as network protocols, information theory and coding theory, network security, management theory, project management, public management, knowledge management etc. It is a great honor to us that numerous people from various countries, including many famous experts and excellent researchers, have shown their interest in this convention and submitted their latest studies to us as their support. Among these studies, we have selected about a hundred to be finally included in this proceeding after reviewing and discussing. We believe that this collection of work will be of great value not only to the participants of ITME2014, but also to those who has a chance of meeting it. The publication of this conference proceedings and the successful opening of ITME2014 owe its credit to a lot of people and institutions, especially the ITME2014 committee, the editors and DEStech Publications. The committee has devoted much time to reviewing the papers submitted to ITME2014, and DEStech Publications publishing those accepted papers. I would like to thank the committee and the press deeply here for their support to ITME2014 and I am eagerly looking forward to another chance for us to be a team again. Finally, let’s wish together that the 2014 International Conference on Information Technology

Principles Of Digital Transmission

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Principles of Digital Transmission is designed for advanced undergraduate and graduate level students and professions in telecommunications. Teachers and learners can mix and match chapters to create four distinct courses: (1) a one-term basic course in digital communications; (2) a one-term course in advanced digital communications; (3) a one-term course in information theory and coding; (4) a two-term course sequence in digital communications and coding. The book provides rigorous mathematical tools for the analysis and design of digital transmission systems. The authors emphasize methodology in their aim to teach the reader how to do it rather than how it is done. They apply the fundamental tools of the discipline onto a number of systems, such as wireless data transmission systems.

Space Time Processing For Mimo Communications

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Driven by the desire to boost the quality of service of wireless systems closer to that afforded by wireline systems, space-time processing for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communications research has drawn remarkable interest in recent years. Exciting theoretical advances have been complemented by rapid transition of research results to industry products and services, thus creating a vibrant new area. Space-time processing is a broad area, owing in part to the underlying convergence of information theory, communications and signal processing research that brought it to fruition. This book presents a balanced and timely introduction to space-time processing for MIMO communications, including highlights of emerging trends, such as spatial multiplexing and joint transceiver optimization. Includes detailed coverage of wireless channel sounding, modelling, characterization and model validation. Provides state-of-the-art research results on space-time coding, including comprehensive tutorial coverage of orthogonal space-time block codes. Discusses important recent developments in spatial multiplexing, transmit beam-forming, pre-coding and joint transceiver design for the multi-user MIMO downlink using full or partial CSI. Illustrates all theory with numerous examples gleaned from cutting-edge research from around the globe. This valuable resource will appeal to engineers, developers and consultants involved in the design and implementation of space-time processing for MIMO communications. Its accessible format, amply illustrated with real world case studies, contains relevant, detailed advice for postgraduate students and researchers specializing in this field.
