Shifting Wealth examines the changing dynamics of the global economy over the last 20 years, and in particular the impact of the economic rise of large developing countries, such as China and India, on the poor.

The global crisis of 2008-09 has brought to the forefront a plethora of economic and political policy issues. There is a re-opening of discussion on basic economic concepts, appropriate framework for analysis, role of private and public sectors in the economy, structural transformation of economies, human development and managing of growing risks and crises. This book explores the role of digital information and communications technology in South Korea’s development, starting with and building upon the crucial developments of the 1980s. This book addresses three important concepts in the economy—competition, innovation, and growth—using various cases and available data in Japan and other countries. First, the authors discuss competition, including global competition, to provide a better understanding of competition policy in Japan.
