This volume consists of selected papers presented at the Ninth International Conference on Computer-Aided Scheduling of Public Transport. Coverage includes the use of computer-aided methods and operations research techniques to improve: information management; network and route planning; vehicle and crew scheduling and rostering; vehicle monitoring and management; and practical experience with scheduling and public transport planning methods.

This volume brings together works resulting from research carried out by members of the EURO Working Group on Transportation (EWGT) and presented during meetings and workshops organized by the Group under the patronage of the Association of European Operational Research Societies in 2012 and 2013. The main targets of the EWGT include providing a forum to share research information and experience, encouraging joint research and the development of both theoretical methods and applications, and promoting cooperation among the many institutions and organizations which are leaders at national level in the field of transportation and logistics. The primary fields of interest concern operational research methods, mathematical models and computation algorithms, to solve and sustain solutions to problems mainly faced by public administrations, city authorities, public transport companies, service providers and logistic operators. Related areas of interest are: land use and transportation planning, traffic control and simulation models, traffic network equilibrium models, public transport planning and management, applications of combinatorial optimization, vehicle routing and scheduling, intelligent transport systems, logistics and freight transport, environment problems, transport safety, and impact evaluation methods. This proceedings volume consists of selected papers presented at the Eighth International Conference on Computer-Aided Scheduling 0/Public Transport (CASPT 2000), which was held at the conference center of the Konrad rd Adenauer-Foundation in Berlin, Germany, from June 2pt to 23 , 2000. The CASPT 2000 is the continuation of aseries of international workshops and conferences presenting recent research and progress in computer-aided scheduling in public transport.Previous workshops and conferences were held in • Chicago (1975), • Leeds (1980), • Montreal (1983 and 1990), • Hamburg (1987), • Lisbon (1993) and • Cambridge, Mass. (1997).1 With CASPT 2000, our series of workshops and conferences celebrated th its 25 anniversary. Starting with a Workshop on Automated Techniques [or Scheduling 0/ Vehicle Operators [or Urban Public Transportation Services in 1975 the scope and purpose has broadened since and still continues to do so. The previous workshops and conferences were focused on public mass transit, and while this remained the primary focus ofthe 2000 conference, it included also computer-aided scheduling methods being developed and applied in re lated means of passenger transport systems. This book contains the papers included in the proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on High-speed and Intercity Railways (IWHIR 2011) held in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, China from July 19 to July 22, 2011, which is organized by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, in collaboration with Southwest Jiaotong University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Dalian Jiaotong University, China Engineering Consultants, Inc., Zhejiang University, and Tsinghua University. This volume contains a selection of 128 papers presented in lectures during the international scientific symposium "Operations Research 2005" (OR 2005) held at the University of Bremen, September 7-9, 2005. This international conference took place under the auspices of the German Operations Research Society (GOR). The symposium had about 600 participants from countries all over the world. It attracted academics and practitioners working in various fields of Operations Research and provided them with the most recent advances in Operations Research as well as related areas in Economics, Mathematics, and Computer Science including the special interest streams Logistics and New Maritime Businesses. The program consisted of 3 plenary and 15 semi-plenary talks and about 400 contributed presentations selected by the program committee to be presented in 20 sections.

This book contains a selection of refereed papers presented at the “International Conference on Operations Research (OR 2011)” which took place at the University of Zurich from August 30 to September 2, 2011. The conference was jointly organized by the German speaking OR societies from Austria (ÖGOR), Germany (GOR) and Switzerland (SVOR) under the patronage of SVOR. More than 840 scientists and students from over 50 countries attended OR 2011 and presented 620 papers in 16 parallel topical streams, as well as special award sessions. The conference was designed according to the understanding of Operations Research as an interdisciplinary science focusing on modeling complex socio-technical systems to gain insight into behavior under interventions by decision makers. Dealing with “organized complexity” lies in the core of OR and designing useful support systems to master the challenge of system management in complex environment is the ultimate goal of our professional societies. To this end, algorithmic techniques and system modeling are two fundamental competences which are also well-balanced in these proceedings.

​This book contains selected papers presented at the "International Annual Conference of the German Operations Research Society (OR2012)" which was held September 4 -7, 2012 at the Leibniz Universität Hannover, Germany. The international conference, which also serves as the annual meeting of the German Operations Research Society (GOR), attracted more than 500 participants from more than 39 countries. Special attention at the conference was given to the three topics "Energy, Markets and Mobility". The OR2012 conference has addressed these topics from an OR perspective, treating them not only in isolation, but also with respect to their numerous and exciting interconnections, such as new energy for new mobility concepts and new market mechanisms for sustainable energy production to name but a few. The proceedings show that this conference topic is an important and promising area to apply Operations Research. The book also contains numerous papers addressing the full scope of fields in Operations Research.
