BOOK EXCERPT:
Integrity has been an essential component of leadership throughout the ages. The Church is facing an integrity crisis; consistently struggling with a plethora of ethical woes among several gifted leaders. Not only is the Churchs conduct in question, its very character and competence are being placed under intense scrutiny. This book explores three dimensions of integrity. It proposes that the overall process of leadership development pivots on three dimensions of integrity: personal integrity (the character of the leader), vocational integrity (the competence of the leader) and organizational integrity, (the commitment and contribution of the leader). This book also proposes that while being gifted is an asset to leadership; giftedness is never enough for successful leadership. It is the combination of giftedness + integrity3 that will facilitate effective leadership.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This book reformulates Christian education as an interdisciplinary and interdenominational vocation for professionals and practitioners. It speaks directly to a range of contemporary contexts with the aim of encouraging conceptual, empirical and practice-informed innovation to build the field of Christian education research. The book invites readers to probe questions concerning epistemologies, ethics, pedagogies and curricula, using multidisciplinary research approaches. By helping thinkers to believe and believers to think, the book seeks to stimulate constructive dialogue about what it means to innovate Christian education research today.Chapters are organised into three main sections. Following an introduction to the volume's guiding framework and intended contribution (Chapter 1), Part 1 features conceptual perspectives and comprises research that develops theological, philosophical and theoretical discussion of Christian education (Chapters 2-13). Part 2 encompasses empirical research that examines data to test theory, answer big questions and develop our understanding of Christian education (Chapters 14-18). Finally, Part 3 reflects on contemporary practice contexts and showcases examples of emerging research agendas in Christian education (Chapters 19-24).

Its easy to learn and then apply secular leadership models into the pastoral and ministry sector. But is it the best alternative to form Church leaders? What is missing when business models are used in ministry? This book is about creating more sensitivity on how some of the secular models can unintentionally limit pastoral and ministry effectiveness. It suggests a competency approach to address leadership influences that are missing yet essential to ministry and the faith-based sector. In many ways, this book is a guide for securing and developing a more engaging ministry ;leadership, one that emerges from the intersection of the leadership and pastoral theology disciplines. Its guiding principle is “Leadership is a Spiritual Practice.” This book is a “must have” for leadership training programs and anyone engaged in forming for ministry leadership roles.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Leadership makes a difference. Leaders directly impact the success or failure of any group or church. Excellent leaders direct churches to successfully accomplish their goals, fulfill their missions, and create a vibrant fellowship of believers who significantly influence their communities for Christ. Poor leaders can undermine the mission of a church, devastate the reputation of a fellowship, and sometimes dissolve the ministries of a congregation. The effects of average leaders are variable. They often allow churches to limp along, to become routine, even stale, or to just survive from week to week. Many factors challenge churches already, and ineffective leadership can make those challenges even more difficult to conquer. A primary reason why leaders struggle so often is a lack of understanding and training in the basic principles of genuine leadership. Further confounding this lack of understanding is the promotion of contemporary philosophies about leadership that can distort those basic concepts of leadership. This ignorance is not the fault of pastors who have a sincere desire to lead effectively, but the training in leadership at many seminaries is often limited. Leadership at the Crossroads addresses some of those concerns. What is leadership? What leadership style works best? How can ministers more effectively motivate their congregations? How can pastors direct the planning process, promote decision making, properly delegate responsibilities, and initiate change? What methods are effective in conflict resolution? These questions, as well as others, are addressed in Leadership at the Crossroads.
