International Technologies For Hazardous Waste Site Cleanup

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

"From the Introduction: " The purpose of this program is to identify and assess international technologies that could be utilized for hazardous waste site remediation within the United States. This report summarizes the results of Phase I of this program, which identified international alternative technologies potentially applicable to Superfund site remediation. All remedial technologies identified as a result of the Phase I activities are described in this report. Recommendations are also provided for further study in Phase II which will focus on the most promising international technologies. General Approach The technical approach for Phase I focused on the location, acquisition, and interpretation of existing data, studies, and related documentation for remedial technologies. Data were obtained through a comprehensive literature survey and telephone contracts / interviews with agencies, industries, vendors, research groups, and others involved in the development and marketing of technologies. Emphasis was placed on technologies that have been developed and / or applied in Europe, Japan and Canada, because of the promise that these areas have more advanced hazardous waste programs in place. An important part of the Phase I activity was the assembly and review of information that EPA scientific personnel have obtained in their foreign travel assignments or through contact with foreign consultants or academics. A list of EPA personnel that were contact for input to the Phase I technology identification activity is provided in Section 4, along with non-EPA contacts . . . .

Bioremediation Technology

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The book describes hazardous waste industries, sources of waste generation, characterization and treatment processes/ methods and technique and technology to deal with the treated waste as per the prescribed standard. Advanced treatment based on the microbial remediation, plant-based decontamination, rhizoremediation and nano-based remediation is also explained. Advances in treatment technology using biotechnological tools/bionanotechnology for removal of contaminants are described. This volume will help readers to develop biotechnological and nanotechnological approaches for the remediation of hazardous waste and the developed technology that can be transferred from laboratory to land and piloting to commercial scenarios. Hazardous And Radioactive Waste Treatment Technologies Handbook

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Many books have been written on hazardous waste and nuclear waste separately, but none have combined the two subjects into one single-volume resource. Hazardous and Radioactive Waste Treatment Technologies Handbook covers the technologies, characteristics, and regulation of both hazardous chemical wastes and radioactive wastes. It provides an overview of recent waste technologies. A reference for scientists and engineers, the handbook focuses on waste-related thermal and non-thermal technologies, separation techniques, and stabilization technologies. It includes information on the DOE and DOD waste matrix located at various sites. It reveals current R&D activities in each technology and what improvements can be made in the future. A detailed schematic diagram illustrates each technology so that the process can be explicitly understood. In addition, the handbook covers relative life-cycle cost estimates for treatment systems using various technologies. With contributions from an international panel and extensively peer-reviewed, Hazardous and Radioactive Waste Treatment Technologies Handbook provides the latest information on waste remediation technologies and related regulations. Often in the field you will encounter more than one type of hazardous waste. This handbook gives you the design information you need to decide which technology to use and how to design the equipment for your particular needs. You can then incorporate appropriate technologies into a mixed waste treatment system.
