BOOK EXCERPT:
Routing and Quality-of-Service in Broadband LEO Satellite Networks describes mechanisms for supporting Quality-of-Service (QoS) strategies that consider properties of low earth orbit satellite networks and their effects on link handover. A graph model representing the dynamic topology of a satellite constellation is introduced based on a new parameter, lifetime. Novel routing and resource reservation algorithms as well as connection admission control strategies are proposed to minimize the handover blocking probability while maintaining QoS requirements. The author also discusses the roles of satellites in an all-IP mobile network architecture and the problems of mobility, QoS provisioning, and routing. This work will be of particular interest to researchers and professionals working on mobility networking in next generation networks.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Considerable attention is currently devoted worldwide toward mobility issues and challenges such as those arising from the integration of the next generation Internet over terrestrial digital TV, mobile user location management, and multi-service mobile networks subject to quality of service (QoS) routing. This book follows Heterogeneous Networks: Performance Modelling and Analysis. It describes recent advances in mobile and wireless networks and the Internet, reflecting the state-of-the-art technology and achievements in the study of mobility management, performance enhancement, optimal admission control, and QoS worldwide. Technical topics discussed in the book include - Mobility Management - Optimal Admission Control - Performance Modelling Studies - Access Network Coverage - Quality of Service (QoS) Mobility Management and Quality-of-Service for Heterogeneous Networks contains recently extended research papers, which have their roots in the series of the HET-NETs International Working Conferences. They focus on the 'Performance Modelling and Evaluation of Heterogeneous Networks' under the auspices of the EU Networks of Excellence Euro-NGI and Euro-FGI. This book is ideal for personnel in computer/communication industries as well as academic staff and master/research students in computer science, operational research, electrical engineering, and telecommunication systems.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 9th International Workshop on Quality of Service, IWQoS 2001, held in Karlsruhe, Germany, in June 2001. The 24 revised full papers presented together with six short papers and two abstracts of invited contributions were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of close to 150 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on provisioning and pricing, systems QoS, routing, TCP related issues, wireless and mobile networking, aggregation and active networks based QoS, scheduling and dropping, and scheduling and admission control.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Satellite Network Robust QoS-aware Routing presents a novel routing strategy for satellite networks. This strategy is useful for the design of multi-layered satellite networks as it can greatly reduce the number of time slots in one system cycle. The traffic prediction and engineering approaches make the system robust so that the traffic spikes can be handled effectively. The multi-QoS optimization routing algorithm can satisfy various potential user requirements. Clear and sufficient illustrations are also presented in the book. As the chapters cover the above topics independently, readers from different research backgrounds in constellation design, multi-QoS routing, and traffic engineering can benefit from the book. BOOK EXCERPT:
This book focuses on the fundamental concepts of IP routing and distance-vector routing protocols (RIPv2 and EIGRP). It discusses routing protocols from a practicing engineer’s perspective, linking theory and fundamental concepts to common practices and everyday examples. The book benefits and reflects the author’s more than 22 years of designing and working with IP routing devices and protocols (and Telecoms systems, in general). Every aspect of the book is written to reflect current best practices using real-world examples. This book describes the various methods used by routers to learn routing information. The author includes discussion of the characteristics of the different dynamic routing protocols, and how they differ in design and operation. He explains the processing steps involved in forwarding IP packets through an IP router to their destination and discusses the various mechanisms IP routers use for controlling routing in networks. The discussion is presented in a simple style to make it comprehensible and appealing to undergraduate and graduate level students, research and practicing engineers, scientists, IT personnel, and network engineers. It is geared toward readers who want to understand the concepts and theory of IP routing protocols, through real-world example systems and networks. Focuses on the fundamental concepts of IP routing and distance-vector routing protocols (RIPv2 and EIGRP). Describes the various methods used by routers to learn routing information. Includes discussion of the characteristics of the different dynamic routing protocols, and how they differ in design and operation. Provides detailed descriptions of the most common distance-vector routing protocols RIPv2 and EIGRP. Discusses the various mechanisms IP routers use for controlling routing in networks.
