BOOK EXCERPT:
In the first century A.D., miraculous gifts occurred with the baptism with the Holy Spirit. These served as signs that God was no longer using the Israelite nation but that his approval now rested on the Christian church, which had been established by his Son. (Heb 2:2-4) On the day of Pentecost, miraculous gifts followed the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and in each case mentioned in the New Testament where the miraculous gifts of the Spirit were given, at least one of the 12 apostles or Paul was present. (Ac 2:1, 4, 14; 8:9-20; 10:44-46; 19:6) With the death of the apostles, the transmittal of the gifts of the Spirit ended. Did the miraculous gifts of the Spirit cease? Is the gift of prophecy for today? It is imperative that we know the correct answer to that question.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Is God still giving revelation today? That question is at the heart of the claims of the largest theological "movement" of Christianity since the Reformation, charismaticism. And the foundation of their position is that the gift of prophecy is still operating today. This book is a detailed study of the gift and it defends the following: - Modern claims to prophecy are one of the most widespread and dangerous frauds in Christianity. - Real biblical Prophets spoke divinely authoritative revelation, and always predicted the future with perfect accuracy in order to authenticate themselves. - Modern so-called "prophets" either make mistaken predictions, or claim they don't even need to try. - There was no difference between the authority and purpose of OT Jewish Prophets like Jeremiah and NT Christian Prophets like Agabus. - The Church universally testified that the gift of prophecy ceased by the third century. - God really hates modern false claims to be speaking for Him.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The charisma of prophecy is found throughout the history of the global Pentecostal movement. Within the movement, prophecy is seen as the communication of an inspired, spontaneous revelation, bringing edification to the faith community. Despite its prevalence, academic research has mostly focused on the biblical-theological aspect, neglecting the actual contemporary practice. This book addresses this gap with a study on the practice of prophecy within the Assemblies of God of Singapore. The book investigates the nature, purpose, and significance of the phenomenon. It also identifies theological variables that are correlated with its practice and explicates these relationships. The investigation employs the empirical-theological method of Johannes van der Ven, utilizing both a qualitative and a quantitative study. The results provide a rich description of the actual reception, delivery, and judging of prophecy. Significant findings include relationships between prophecy and courage, love, personality types, prayer types, and evangelism.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Granville Sharp s Canon and Its Kin explains that the semantics of the article-substantive-KAI-substantive construction (TSKS) have been largely misunderstood and that this misunderstanding has adversely impacted the exegesis of several theologically significant texts. This issue is addressed from three angles: historical investigation, linguistic-phenomenological analysis of the construction, and exegetical implications. The reasons for the misunderstanding are traced historically; a better comprehension of the semantics of the construction is established by an examination of primary literature in the light of linguistic theory; and the implications of this analysis are applied to a number of passages in the New Testament. Historically, the treatment begins with a clear grammatical principle articulated by Granville Sharp, and it ends with the present-day confusion. This book includes a detailed examination of the New Testament data and other Ancient Greek literature, which reveals that Sharp s rule has a general validity in the language. Lastly, a number of exegetically significant texts that are affected by the linguistic-phenomenological investigation are discussed in detail. This enlightening text is a valuable resource for undergraduate and graduate students of religion, linguistics, history, and Greek."

You are compelled to proclaim God’s truth. You have a strong sense of duty, tend to be very opinionated and serious, are authoritative–especially when it comes to Scripture, are burdened to expose sin in others, long to see revival, boldly speak with urgency, want things done right, and stand up for justice and causes in which you believe, and will “go to bat” for the innocent who have been wronged. Because of your zeal, people may see you as insensitive and demanding…and feel you are “stepping on their toes” through your “hell-fire-brimstone” teaching. If this sounds like you, you probably want to develop your gift of prophecy! This book was written to help you develop and use the gift of prophecy. It addresses: What Is the Gift of Prophecy, The Passion and Privilege of Serving on God’s Team, Seven Pitfalls Associated with the Gift of Prophecy, How to Enhance Your Gift, The Role of the Prophet in End Times, Using the Gift of Prophecy in Love, Using Your Gift on God’s Team, Identifying the Gift of Prophecy, A Two-Year Plan to Begin Thinking Like a Prophet.
