BOOK EXCERPT:

In It’s Not Just Who You Know, Tommy Spaulding—the former CEO of Up With People—has written the new How to Win Friends and Influence People for the twenty-fist century. Success—in business and in life—is all about relationships. In this powerful guide to reaching out to others, Spaulding takes Dale Carnegie’s classic philosophy to the next level—how to create lasting relationships that go well beyond mere superficial contacts and “second floor” relationships. Tommy Spaulding learned at a very young age that he was not destined to be an academic star. He may have gotten a 4.0, but only if he added his high school and college GPAs together. The reason he found academics so challenging, he discovered later, is that Tommy is dyslexic. But his dyslexia didn’t hold him back—in fact, it helped him to develop the talents he did have. For Tommy is a natural leader; he realized early on that he had a unique ability to connect with others, whatever their age or background. As a teenager, he was given a copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People by his father, and it quickly became his bible. He became a national finalist for the DECA Entrepreneurial Business competition in high school, and ran successfully for senior class president. He went on to become the CEO of Up With People, one of the largest nonprofit international leadership organizations in the world. At every step, Tommy learned that the secret to getting ahead was reaching out for the support and insight and influence of others. None of us achieve great success alone. We need the help of other people. In this candid, revealing book, Tommy expands upon the principles that Dale Carnegie outlined 75 years ago, and shows us how to take them one step further to accomplish the impossible in our lives and careers. To invite others to be genuine partners in our lives and success, Tommy explains, you have to first be interested in other people. It’s not just who you know, or what they can do for you, but what you can do for them. Motives matter. Establishing a deeper connection is about authenticity, not manipulation. Reciprocity, not selfishness. Every relationship is a two-way street; we never know when a chance encounter can change the direction of our life. In the bestselling tradition of Dale Carnegie’s classic, It’s Not Just Who You Know shows how each and every one of us can use the power of netgiving—of helping others—to expand our world and achieve our goals, and make a difference in our job, our career, and our community.

I Know What I M Doing

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Second Death

BOOK EXCERPT:

Henry Ford lived a simple life of an ordinary salesman. But when the doctor calls time and he suddenly finds his physical body under the death sheet, Henry embarks on an extraordinary odyssey into the afterlife of purgatory where he must use a new voice to avoid eternal death in the lake of fire. As Henry breaks into song guided by a piano man who helps him play with the riddles of pop culture, he dances with the hipster rock-star devil and his band of banditos, covorts with his playful, talented, and sin-sational girlfriend, Lust, makes amends with his family, and witnesses miraclesall while attempting to find the Stairway to Heaven and avoid the Highway to Hell. As his musical journey shifts from contemplation into heavier metals, Henry seeks answers to his deepest questions within a cast of characters that teach him that in the end, it is up to all of us to choose between the corrupting influence of evil and the redemptive virtues of good. Just Because You Know It Doesn T Make It Right How To Paint A Prettier Picture For Your Life And Business

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

People do what they were taught, whether it works or not. Jobs, relationships, money, and health are all a reflection of learned behaviors. Most people follow the path that was laid out before them. But what if that path leads to heartache, hopelessness or pure hell. What happens when the “right thing to do” no longer works? It’s time to paint a prettier picture. This book is simply about deciding to take action. Planning a better life or a successful business is no different than an artist creating a new work of art. You decide how you want it to look. Follow the outline and before you know it, you have created a masterpiece in both your life and business. The key is to get started. There is no substitute for action. Stepping outside of your comfort zone is scary and not for the faint of heart. It is always shaky ground, because what comes next is an unknown. But the freedom of making your own choice is a lot more exhilarating than the stress of staying in the lines, drawn by someone else.

Living Dying Death And Bereavement Volume One

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This two-volume book offers extensive interviews with persons who have made significant contributions to thanatology, the study of dying, death, loss, and grief. The book’s in-depth conversations provide compelling life stories of interest to clinicians, researchers, and educated lay persons, and to specialists interested in oral history as a means of gaining rich understandings of persons’ lives. Several disciplines that contribute to thanatology are represented in this book, such as psychology, religious studies, art, literature, history, social work, nursing, theology, education, psychiatry, sociology, philosophy, and anthropology. The book is unique; no other text offers such a comprehensive, insightful, and personal review of work in the thanatology field. The salience of thanatology is obvious when we consider several topics, including the aging demographics of most countries, the leading causes of death, the devastation of COVID-19, the realities of how most persons die, the growth both of hospice and of efforts within medicine to ensure that a good death becomes the norm of medical practice, and increases in the number of countries and states permitting physician-assisted suicide Volume One includes conversations with 21 thanatologists and an introductory chapter in which the author provides an overview of the project and offers reflections on what these thanatologists have told him. The experts interviewed here include Robert Fulton, Sandra Bertman, Bill Worden, Charles Corr, Sister Frances Dominica, Myra Bluebond Langner, Nancy Hogan, Robert Neimeyer, Ken Doka, and Donna Schuurman.

Cursillo

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Since its inception in Roman Catholic Spain in the 1940s, the Cursillo movement has been a steadily-growing phenomenon and has spread into many Protestant churches worldwide under various names. The weekend initiation is often a deeply-felt experience that boasts of many conversions and recommitments. Yet in this comprehensive analysis of Cursillo the author finds theological concerns, questions about the propriety of the methods, and complications such as disaffection from the local church, transfer of loyalty to the Cursillo community, and a significant drop-out rate, raising implications for similar, spiritual movements. Interviews with former Cursillo participants confirmed many of these conclusions but also raised a challenge to the church: many Cursillo participants do not perceive vital faith in their local church. The author suggests that the Cursillo attempts to imitate the work of the church in an extraordinary form and that this might initiate some of the unhelpful results. The church would be better served by seeking to revitalize its ordinary ministries of Word and sacrament, prayer, community, and Sabbath observance.
