John’s Gospel and the Formula behind the Myth of Jesus is about a set of ideas that largely dictated the form and content of John’s Gospel, and profoundly influenced the three Synoptic Gospels. Far from the simple narrative it seems to be, John’s Gospel is a highly complex work geared to the depiction of Jesus as a type of cosmic figure. To this end its author draws on astrology, the annual cycle of Jewish festivals, symbolism taken from the Qabalah, and a section of Genesis. The book examines clues that Qabalah and Hellenestic astrology were already in existence at the time of writing of Genesis. John’s Gospel and the Formula behind the Myth of Jesus also looks at evidence that the true nature of John's Gospel has been known for some time.

Ladd's magisterial work on New Testament theology has well served scores of seminary students since 1974. Now this comprehensive, standard evangelical text has been carefully revised by Hagner to include an update of Ladd's survey of the history of the field of New Testament theology, an augmented bibliography, and an entirely new subject index.

The Q-Hypothesis has functioned as a mainstay of study of the synoptic gospels for many years. Increasingly it comes under fire. This study demonstrates that the Gospel attributed to John gives an inaccurate account of the life and teaching of Jesus. It shows that this Gospel was finished during a fierce conflict between the Johannine community and the Jewish community. During this conflict, the Johannine community hailed Jesus as God, and declared that the Jews were children of the devil. They attributed their beliefs to Jesus, and portrayed him as quarrelling with the Jews as they did. Consequently, this document is fiercely anti-Jewish and has been used to fuel anti-semitism - reasons for the author to challenge the fitness of John's Gospel to be in anyone's sacred scriptures.

As Catholics in ever-growing numbers are taking part in Bible studies, many questions arise. How do I study the Bible? Where do I begin? Is it OK to interpret the Bible for ourselves? What Bible should I use? How can I understand such a deep book as the Gospel of St. John? How can I be guided in my studies?

This book, a revision of the author's dissertation, describes the grounds on which knowledge about God is possible according to the Gospel of John. In response to modern questions and doubts about the possibility of religious knowledge, John's answers are identified and illuminated using standard historical method. A major part of this investigation is spent showing that, for readers of all persuasions, it is clear that certain parts of John's Gospel were never intended as either fiction or metaphor. From these parts, the basis on which John thinks that people can have religious knowledge is inferred and described.

The Fourth Gospel has been known as the “spiritual gospel” since the second century, but only recently have biblical scholars attempted to express the unique spirituality found in that sacred text. Surprisingly, no consensus has emerged even after a century of research.
