BOOK EXCERPT:
Receiving a call from the old family attorney, Max quickly obliges his request and jumps on a plane back home. But will this trip be different? Having struggled through a difficult ordeal in his family as a child, Max is hopeful but not expectant of good news. Will the ordeal finally be over? His flight is only the beginning. Max remembers what brought him to this moment. His father, Jamie Cooper, a devoted dad and faithful employee, had been accused of stealing $30,000 from the bank he worked for, charged and arrested in a moment. In the ensuing months, Jamie hired a defense team and fought to clear his name both in a civil trial and a criminal trial. But would the combined strength of the town's powerful chief of police, a man who'd held a grudge against the Cooper family for years, and the bank owner's son, Alden Stillwell, prove to be more than Jamie could fend off? Follow the quick-paced trials and their dramatic effects in Carroll Multz's Justice Denied: A Novel.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The "He-Coon" is former U. S. Congressman Bob Sikes, once the most powerful figure in Florida's Panhandle. When he died with a diagnosis of malnutrition and a new secret will surfaced, his daughter retraced his final years and the hijacking of his estate by his new, much younger third wife. She found that during the darkened, helpless final years of his long bout with Alzheimer's disease, Bob Sikes was deprived of medical care, isolated from friends and family, and threatened with being sent to a nursing home if he didn't behave - which made him cry; meanwhile, his wife secretly transferred his assets into her name - with the help of his doctor (a state senator), his secretary, the town mayor, and her friends and her sister. During a decade of court battles, the children and grandchildren of the He-Coon learned that despite copious documentation of evidence, records, and perjury, despite legal precedents and statutes, justice follows political connections and deep pockets.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Personal Justice Denied tells the extraordinary story of the incarceration of mainland Japanese Americans and Alaskan Aleuts during World War II. Although this wartime episode is now almost universally recognized as a catastrophe, for decades various government officials and agencies defended their actions by asserting a military necessity. The Commission on Wartime Relocation and Internment was established by act of Congress in 1980 to investigate the detention program. Over twenty days, it held hearings in cities across the country, particularly on the West Coast, with testimony from more than 750 witnesses: evacuees, former government officials, public figures, interested citizens, and historians and other professionals. It took steps to locate and to review the records of government action and to analyze contemporary writings and personal and historical accounts. The Commission’s report is a masterful summary of events surrounding the wartime relocation and detention activities, and a strong indictment of the policies that led to them. The report and its recommendations were instrumental in effecting a presidential apology and monetary restitution to surviving Japanese Americans and members of the Aleut community.

BOOK EXCERPT:
On a cold November morning a fourteen year old paperboy was delivering his route when he saw a brightly wrapped package on the roof of a parked car. Curiosity got the best of him and when he picked it up it exploded, killing him instantly. This is the true story of the investigation of his murder and numerous other related murders which occurred over a fifteen year span. It shows how investigators were able to link the murders to one man, a motorcycle gang enforcer. This story provides a comprehensive look into the criminal justice system and reveals not only it’s successes, but also it’s failures. From police officers to detectives to forensic experts to medical examiners to prosecuting attorneys to witnesses and even informants, everyone contributed. No one gave up! It’s the story of how all the pieces were put together, the killer identified, and the case presented for prosecution. It also shows how one elected official became the biggest stumbling block to justice for all the victims.

BOOK EXCERPT:
In India, the quote “Justice Delayed is Justice Denied” is frequently cited in legal proceedings, orders, and judgments. However, its impact has been minimal, leading to a rising backlog of cases, especially criminal ones. This issue has been discussed at governance and judicial levels, yet the situation continues to worsen. The author's conscience is compelled to address this proverb due to the severe mental toll on accused individuals in prolonged criminal trials. These delays, spanning years, leave the accused mentally imprisoned and living in torment. The judiciary, known for its sharp discernment, appears inconsistent in criminal cases. Accused individuals endure financial, physical, and mental torture without fault, often for over twenty-five years. If trials concluded within a reasonable five-year period, many could have been exonerated much sooner. Even the cruelest animal shows mercy, yet the current system subjects the accused to prolonged suffering unjustly.
