BOOK EXCERPT:

In the book of 'Lasers in Dermatology: Parameters and Choice,' specific laser parameters are described around each laser instrument for these novices. However, since it is impossible to treat effective and safe laser simply by memorizing parameters, it is described based on the important principles that is essential for parameter control. This book describes a total of 13 lasers and energy-based devices : Q-switched ruby laser, Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, picosecond alexandrite laser, long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser, pulsed-dye laser, intense pulsed light (IPL), long-pulsed alexandrite laser, Er:YAG laser, CO2 fractional laser, fractional microneedle radiofrequency (RF), light-emitting diode (LED), skin equipment, and 1,450nm diode laser. And for novices, it explains the simple principles of lasers and the concepts you need to know when you start skin care and laser. It also explains the treatment of scars and melasma, which are the diseases that novices are most interested in. Finally, it describes post-inflammatory (PIH) and side effects and complications that novices are embarrassed about in diagnosis and treatment.

Lasers In Cosmetic Dermatology Skincare Practice

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Much has been written about lasers, but only a few books cover laser cosmetic dermatology from beginning to end. We decided to address this gap and collected all the information that would be useful for specialists in this book. It focuses on modern laser and photodynamic technologies and deals in detail with various issues concerning high-energy and low-intensity devices. The book consists of three parts. In the first part, we explain the nature of laser radiation and provide a general understanding of how a laser device is constructed. A separate chapter is devoted to the interaction of laser radiation with the skin — the targets and mechanisms of laser action and the essence of photothermolysis. This part also considers the features of intense pulse light (IPL) treatment, low-level laser therapy (LLLT), and photodynamic therapy (PDT). The second part is devoted to practical issues — the specific capabilities of light-based and photodynamic technologies. The entire spectrum of dermatological and aesthetic problems in which lasers and IPL devices yield significant results are considered. These are laser rejuvenation, removal of benign growths, treatment of vascular and pigmentation disorders, scars, acne, psoriasis, and onychomycosis, as well as tattoo, unwanted hair (epilation), and fat deposit removal. In this part, we also discuss the current perspectives on the combination of laser treatment and injectable procedures, and the possibilities of using lasers for the transdermal delivery of active ingredients. A separate chapter on complications associated with laser procedures and ways to reduce their risks concludes the second part. The third part touches on some key organizational aspects, such as requirements for safe operation and the choice of laser devices.

Energy For The Skin

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Energy on the skin has revolutionized medicine: in the last 25 years laser and IPL devices have made completely new medical treatment concepts possible, with considerable therapeutic success. The rapid technical advances in energy-based instruments require continuous training for attending physicians. This book presents all the available energy-based systems for the treatment of cutaneous diseases, including a wide range of laser applications, IPL and energy-based devices such as the lightning lamp-pumped pulsed dye laser, solid state lasers like neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd YAG) laser, quality switched ruby laser, erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet laser (YAG) and CO2 laser, as well as radio frequency and high-intensity focused ultra sound, photodynamic therapy and more. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com) and a subsequent human revision by original chapter authors, editor and publisher was perfomed to fine-tune and update the content. After discussing the history of the laser, the first part of the book focuses on laser therapy in dermatology and aesthetic medicine, including side effects, complications and treatment errors. It also examines the qualitative standards and legal aspects, from therapists’ qualifications to patient education and the maintenance of the equipment. In addition, it addresses safe and effective energy applications for hemangiomas, skin cancer precursors and rosacea. The book also features chapters on patient preparation, medical history and photographic follow up, as well as skin analysis, cooling techniques, light protection and the maintenance of laser devices. Further, it discusses cosmetic topics such as tattoo removal, photo hair removal, scars and stretch marks, hair transplant, body contouring, hyperhidrosis, and aesthetic plasma medicine. Written by leading international exerts, each contribution includes suggestions for further reading, making the book a valuable resource for beginners and experts alike. At the same time, its easy-to-follow, didactic style means that it is also suitable for university courses and seminars.
