BOOK EXCERPT:
Unlike many books about the afterlife, Life after Death makes no appeal to religious faith, divine revelation, or sacred texts. Drawing on some of the most powerful theories and trends in physics, evolutionary biology, science, philosophy, and psychology, D'Souza shows why the atheist critique of immortality is irrational. It is not only reasonable to believe in life after death; it is also beneficial. Such a belief gives depth and significance to this life, a path to happiness, and reason for hope.

“Wealth without work Pleasure without conscience Science without humanity Knowledge without character Politics without principle Commerce without morality Worship without sacrifice. https://vidjambov.blogspot.com/2023/01/book-inventory-vladimir-djambov-talmach.html This book examines in detail the traditional teaching of the Orthodox Church about the various stages of the posthumous life of the soul. The famous Orthodox French theologian Jean-Claude Larchet tried to present in as much detail as possible the Orthodox doctrine of death and resurrection and to make due clarifications to the controversial issues discussed with representatives of other Christian denominations (about purgatory, prayer for the dead and for the veneration of saints) or in the bosom of Russian theology itself (about apocatastasis or aerial ordeals).

BOOK EXCERPT:
Choose you this day whom you will serve (Joshua 24:15). Every day, we are making that choice, whether we realize it or not, to live a life that reflects God or a life that reflects Satan. Whichever way we choose to live our life, at the end of that life comes death, then the judgment (Hebrews 9:27). You can believe this or not. The Word of God is faithful and true, and anyone's disbelief of the Scriptures cannot change it or make it become untrue. It only concludes one of two things: if you are right, then you did not waste any time; but if you are wrong, then the wrath of God lieth at your door, and hell will be your final "nonresting" place. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (John 3:36) I pose the question to you: Where do you think you will go after you die? There is a place called heaven, and there is a place called hell, and you have the choice now to decide which place you will reside for all eternity. I hope believers who read this book will become even further assured, through the Scriptures, that they will see their loved ones again in heaven; and those who do not believe will receive the clarity they need to know that there is life after death, and the decision for where they spend eternity is their choice.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Writing in the wake of a near-fatal stroke, eminent theologian Anthony C. Thiselton addresses a universally significant topic: death and what comes next. This distinctive study of "the last things" comprehensively explores questions about individual death, the intermediate state, the return of Christ, the resurrection of the dead, hell, the final state of the redeemed, and more. At once scholarly and pastoral, Thiselton's Life after Death offers biblically astute, historically informed, and intellectually sound answers -- making this book an invaluable resource for thinking Christians.

In a world full of suffering and death, humans long for abundant life. In this ESBT volume, Jeff Brannon explores how the hope of life after death is woven throughout Scripture. As we follow the biblical themes of creation, fall, and redemption, we begin to understand the doctrine of resurrection and what it means for Christian faith and discipleship.

BOOK EXCERPT:
In Africa, the emphasis on family, marriage, and offspring suggest that there is a kind of an unwritten ancestral law that imposes on every male the duty of begetting a son. The reason is because the core of African soteriology is centered on offspring. The predicament of the childless couples, therefore, stems from the desire for immortality and salvation that culminates in the admission of the dead into the ancestral world. This quest for salvation and immortality constitute social, emotional, psychological, and spiritual problems for Christian as well as non-Christian childless couples.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This volume contains for the first time in English, Jan Patočka’s seminal essay “The Phenomenology of Afterlife”, as well as contributions surrounding and analyzing this text. In his essay, Patočka reflects on our relation to the dead and on how the departure of a loved one affects our continued existence. The premise of Patočka’s investigation is that our existence always takes place by and through an originary and reciprocal “being for others”. The contributors in the volume extend the field of inquiry into the wider phenomenological and post-phenomenological discussion of death by being cognizant of how works of literature can broaden our understanding of the care of death, grief, forgiveness and non-reciprocal love. Also included are reflections on issues of philosophical anthropology, community, collective memory, and the ecstatic nature of life – issues that can all be related back to Patočka’s initial reflections, but which nonetheless radiate into a myriad of directions. This volume appeals to students and researchers in the field.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Life and Death: Social Perspectives on Biblical Bodies explores some of the social, material, and ideological dynamics shaping life and death in both the Hebrew Bible and ancient Israel and Judah. Analysing topics ranging from the bodily realities of gestation, subsistence, and death, and embodied performances of gender, power, and status, to the imagined realities of post-mortem and divine existence, the essays in this volume offer exciting new trajectories in our understanding of the ways in which embodiment played out in the societies in which the texts of the Hebrew Bible emerged.
