BOOK EXCERPT:
Deep and lasting learning results when we teach human brains in ways responsive to how they’re structured and how they function, which is not how we imagine they work or wish they would work. This book proposes a radical restructuring of teaching so that it conforms to how people learn. Spence maintains that teaching cannot and should not be aimed at transferring knowledge from teacher brains into student brains. In his words: “Decades of experience have made perfectly clear that this approach frustrates teachers, bores students, and results in minimal learning.”This is a book that challenges—it will poke and prod your thinking. The author writes near the end of Chapter 4, “I wanted to write a book that asked real questions and explored possible answers. I am not concerned that you agree with my answers or ideas, but I fervently hope the questions I’m raising will lead you to questions about habitual teaching practices and the resulting failure of students to learn.”

BOOK EXCERPT:
A sparkling YA debut rom-com about a popular high-school girl, her ex-boyfriend-turned-best-friend, and the girl they both fall for—perfect for fans of Becky Albertalli or Casey McQuiston. Sam Dickson is a charismatic actress, ambitious and popular with big plans for her future. Ros Shew is one of the smartest people in school—but she’s a loner, and prefers to keep it that way. Then there’s Christian Powell, the darling of the high school soccer team. He’s not the best with communication, which is why he and Sam broke up after dating for six months; but he makes up for it by being genuine, effusive, and kind, which is why they’re still best friends. When Christian falls for Ros on first sight, their first interaction is a disaster, so he enlists Sam’s help to get through to her. Sam, with motives of her own, agrees to coach Christian from the sidelines on how to soften Ros’s notorious walls. But as Ros starts to suspect Christian is acting differently, and Sam starts to realize the complexity of her own feelings, their fragile relationships threaten to fall apart. This fresh romantic comedy from debut author Rachel Roasek is a heartfelt story about falling in love—with a partner, with your friends, or just with yourself—and about how maybe, the bravest thing to do in the face of change is just love somebody.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Marcus had been busy getting his gear together. Fortunately he had come off the ship with his tool belt. Everything in it was like pure gold. Along with two screw drivers, a pair of pliers an awl, some wire and some twine, he also had a good large pocket knife and a hunting knife. He would leave his belt and tools in Rondace with Hank but both knives would go with him. He had also spent time making fine strips of leather to braid for a really strong rope. Areels Aunt wove a good warm travel cloak for him. It would double as a blanket. He was given two horses and a donkey to travel with. He made nice leather leads for the horses, also made a heavy riding pad for his horse. It was a heavy pad for the horses back with a large pocket on each side that hung down in back of his legs. Though it was not strapped to the horse, the weight of the rider held it in place. He made a pack rack for the donkey out of braches and more braided leather straps to hold it in places.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This book advances an environmental approach to enhancing creativity in schools, by interweaving educational creativity theory with creative industries environmental approaches. Using Anna Craft’s last book Creativity and Education Futures as a starting point, the book sets out an up-to-date argument for why education policy should be supporting a birth-to-workplace approach to developing creative skills and capacities that extends across the education lifespan. The book also draws on the voices of school teachers, students and leaders who suggest directions for the next generation of creative teachers and learners in a rapidly evolving global education landscape. Overall, the book argues that secondary schools must find a way to make more room for creative risk, innovation and imagination in order to adequately prepare students for creative workplaces and publics.

[Siren Publishing: The Stormy Glenn ManLove Collection: Erotic Romance, Contemporary, Alternative, MM, HEA] Hot Mess 1- Hot summer rain. That was the scent that drew me. The soulful amber-green eyes that begged to be loved kept me. One look and I knew I wanted Lany Harris to be mine. Convincing him of my good intentions might prove to be harder than trying to convince my superiors that someone was out to get us. I was obviously insane. Cinnamon and whiskey had a delicious scent and it was S.W.A.T. commander, Lt. Salvador Delvecchio. I wanted to roll in that scent, sink into it, and never come out. I wanted to be consumed by everything that was the lethal man who had rescued me and decided I belonged to him. I was a hot mess. Hot Mess 2- As a lieutenant on the city's elite SWAT team, I had a job I loved. I lived in a beautiful penthouse apartment overlooking the city park. And the love of my life spent every night in my arms. My life was pretty damn good. Which was why I was not thrilled that someone was messing with it. Someone should have told me I was the comic relief. I would have prepared better for it or at least remembered to wear underwear. Tonight was the one year anniversary of the night Sal and I met. It was special. I was going to propose. It would have been a whole lot easier to propose if the man I wanted to propose to was actually there. Tonight was supposed to be perfect. Which was why I was not thrilled that someone was messing with it. Stormy Glenn is a Siren-exclusive author.
