Drug Discovery And Clinical Research

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Drug Discovery and Clinical Research bandwagon has been joined by scientists and researchers from all fields including basic sciences, medical sciences, biophysicists, biotechnologists, statisticians, regulatory officials and many more. The joint effort and contribution from all is translating into the fast development of this multi-faceted field. At the same time, it has become challenging for all stakeholders to keep abreast with the explosion in information. The race for the finish-line leaves very little time for the researchers to update themselves and keep tabs on the latest developments in the industry. To meet these challenges, this book entitled Drug Discovery and Clinical Research has been compiled. All chapters have been written by stalwarts of the field who have their finger on the pulse of the industry. The aim of the book is to provide succinctly within one cover, an update on all aspects of this wide area. Although each of the chapter dealt here starting from drug discovery and development, clinical development, bioethics, medical devices, pharmacovigilance, data management, safety monitoring, patient recruitment, etc. are topics for full-fledged book in themselves, an effort has been made via this book to provide a bird’s eye view to readers and help them to keep abreast with the latest development despite constraints of time. It is hoped that the book will contribute to the growth of readers, which should translate into drug discovery and clinical research industry’s growth.

Pharmacovigilance Medical Writing

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Pharmacovigilance Medical Writing covers the preparation of pharmacovigilance documents for all stages of the drug development process (i.e. from clinical development through to applications for marketing authorisations to the post-marketing stage). For each document, the book presents a review of the regulatory framework that governs the content of the document, followed by practical guidance (e.g. scheduling, source data, department/functions involved in document preparation/review, appropriate timelines and planning activities), ending with a generic model document compliant with the current guidelines, which can be modified to meet specific company and product requirements.

Mastering Scientific And Medical Writing

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

“If any man wish to write in a clear style, let him frst be clear in his thoughts. ” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe You may ask why anyone would want to write yet another book about scientifc writing. Tere are many books on the subject, some more useful than others, and the abundance of literature on this topic may confuse rather than guide. I felt that this book was necessary for several reasons. During the past years, I have learnt much about the needs of scientifc communicators, both through my personal experience as a pharmacologist and, later, through teaching scientifc writing at universities, pharmaceutical companies, and other institutions. In today’s busy world, guidance on scientifc writing must be focused and to the point. Our constraints no longer permit the ti- consuming search for the “correct” word or formulation. Moreover, the speed by which we produce a manuscript has become increasingly important, be it in academia or the pharmaceutical industry. Scientists ofen fnd it difcult to accept that their professional success essentially depends on their skill and efciency to communicate their research results. Without any doubt, the rapid exchange of pertinent information is critical to scientifc advancement and should therefore be regarded with due respect. A second, perhaps even more important reason for writing this book is my personal concern for everyone challenged to write high-quality texts in a language that is not his or her native tongue.

The Science And Business Of Drug Discovery

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Science and Business of Drug Discovery is written for those who want to learn about the biopharmaceutical industry and its products whatever their level of technical knowledge. Its aim is to demystify the jargon used in drug development, but in a way that avoids over simplification and the resulting loss of key information. Each of the twenty chapters is illustrated with figures and tables which clarify some of the more technical points being made. Also included is a drug discovery case history which draws the relevant material together into a single chapter. In recognizing that it is difficult to navigate through the many external resources dealing with drug development, the book has been written to guide the reader towards the most appropriate information sources, including those listed in the two appendices. The following topics are covered: Different types of drugs: from small molecules to stem cells Background to chemistry of small and large molecules Historical background to drug discovery, pharmacology and biotechnology The drug discovery pipeline: from target discovery to marketed medicine Commercial aspects of drug discovery Challenges to the biopharmaceutical industry and its responses Material of specific interest to technology transfer executives, recruiters and pharmaceutical translators

Essentials Of Translational Pediatric Drug Development

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Essentials of Translational Pediatric Drug Development: From Past Needs to Future Opportunities provides integrated and up-to-date insights relevant for both translational researchers and clinicians active in the field of pediatric drug development. The book covers all key aspects from different stakeholder perspectives, providing a literature overview and careful reflection on state-of-the-art approaches. It will be an ideal guide for researchers in the field who are designing and performing high quality, innovative pediatric-adapted drug development by helping them define needs/challenges and possible solutions that advance and harmonize pediatric drug development.Despite the broad consensus that children merit the same quality of drug treatment as any other age group, children remain frequently neglected during drug research and development. Even with the adoption of multiple legislations addressing this problem, the lack of efficacy and safety data of marketed as well as newly developed drugs still remain in the pediatric population. Covers both theoretical and practical aspects of translational pediatric drug development Approaches the topic from different stakeholder perspectives (academics, industry, regulators, clinicians and patient/parent advocacy groups) Offers best practices and future perspectives for the improvement of translational pediatric drug development

New Drug Development

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book acquaints students and practitioners in the related fields of pharmaceutical sciences, clinical trials, and evidence-based medicine with the necessary study design concepts and statistical practices to allow them to understand how drug developers plan and evaluate their drug development. Two goals of the book are to make the material accessible to readers with minimal background in research and to be straightforward enough for self-taught purposes. By bringing the topic from the early discovery phase to clinical trials and medical practice, the book provides an indispensable overview of an otherwise confusing and fragmented set of topics. The author’s experience as a respected scientist, teacher of statistics, and one who has worked in the clinical trials arena makes him well suited to write such a treatise.
