Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: In recent years, China and India have become two of the most important markets in terms of sales, low-cost manufacturing and R&D operations. The future progress will increase the competitive advantage for both countries and attract MNC s from all over the world to invest. Nevertheless, success is not guaranteed, even with the large business opportunities that China and India provide. A MNC has to be aware of various challenges that both countries pose, such as government interventions, underdeveloped infrastructures or copyright violations. Hence, MNC s need efficient strategies in order to compete and improve their position in these markets. Particularly the implementation of an efficient innovation and knowledge strategy has become a crucial aspect. Effectiveness in local product adjustments, globalizing R&D, tailoring talent management, mastering the complexity of global value chains, and managing risks are success factors that have to be considered. This, however, is not an easy task. Multiple failures of MNC s in China and India demonstrate that it is important to adapt a company s strategy to the local customer needs and to obtain a competitive advantage in the field of innovation. The purpose of this master thesis is to discuss all these aspects and present crucial factors for the implementation of an efficient strategy for the two markets China and India, with a focus on innovation and knowledge. Obviously, there are limits to the scope of this dissertation. Some aspects as for example the cultural background of both countries, governmental restrictions, the role of outsourcing or the availability of financial resources have either not been considered or are only discussed briefly. Moreover, this dissertation will only provide a general overview as the business environment of MNC s in each market will differ. Introduction: In the last 10 to 20 years the term emerging market has become very important in the international business context because countries such as China or India grew heavily and created new, enormous market segments. Companies from all over the world are seeking to do business in economically developing countries because of their great potential. Gross domestic product (GDP) per capita figures exceeding 10 per cent a year, a business environment of over five billion people (approximately 80 per cent of the global population), a growing domestic customer group of wealthy people, excellently educated [...]

Essay from the year 2018 in the subject Business economics - Miscellaneous, grade: 74, University of Edinburgh, language: English, abstract: For the last decade companies in emerging markets (EMs) have started to develop products, which are can compete with those produced by firms in advanced countries (ACs). This ability to compete did not come and many overnight and the new companies emerging have followed a way of advancing that led them from producing for a developed company to designing their own product and then finally creating their own brand. This essay will discuss the implications of the different stages in development of firms in emerging markets and will show on the example of Wipro, that while there is a standard way, but not the only way. The strategy used by Wipro involved skipping the first step of being an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for others and starting their innovation from the get-go, being an original design manufacturer (ODM), progressing to being an own brand manufacturer (OBM) in the late 1990s early 2000s. After going through these phases, the company is now a recognised, global player and leads the industry in integrated business and business process solutions, as a strong consultancy and production partner. Further the paper will discuss how the company was influenced by the macro and meso environment in India and Bangalore. On the macro level, it will provide evidence how Wipro has benefitted from the higher spending on education by the Indian government in the last 30 years, how AC companies’ outsourcing activities helped Wipro to catch up quickly and how the improvement of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) helps the innovation process of the firm further. Around the meso level influences on Wipro, the discussion will focus on the vacuum left by IBM leaving Bangalore and the clustering of tech companies and institutions that followed, as well as the entrepreneurship ecosystem, which is nurtured by the government’s policies and support.

Project Report from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: B, University of Bedfordshire, course: MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, language: English, abstract: The current era is very often termed as New Geography of Investments. It has also been examined that Developing and Industrialised Economies are listed first in the categories of top five economies from where MNCs come. UNCTAD (2004) has classified developed economies into two two groups: Newer Industrialised (Singapote, Taiwan and South Korea) which are successful in establishing good track record and sometime also known as outward investors and the second group is of Rapidly Developing Economies (China and India). The core objective of this report is to discover how MNCs are forming their HRM strategies within the emerging econimies and how much they are successful in aligning their HRM practices with their main business strategies and also with operational activities. This report will be useful in the identification and the analysis of travel of ideas between MNCs residing in East and West in relation to the their purpose and opportunity in accordance to the Human Resource (HR) practices and policies cross national transfer. The case study on Alpha Services provide some interesting insight about the way in which emerging economies’ MNC strategizing and managing their operations in different regions. It has been understood that Indian MNCs are facing many problems in reorganizing their internationalization strategies. Correspondingly, the company’s corporate coordination and control mechanism are highly influenced by multiple issues that the company is facing as MNC from the emerging economy. The approach of Alpha Services in regard to the adoption of performance indicators from its major US based business solution company and then to make those indicators as an integral part of company’s PMS (Performance Management System is seems to be a clear indication of adaptive approach implication specifically for the purpose of management of its subsidiaries located in developed markets. Similarly, the management of Alpha Services does not reflect ethnocentric or exportive approach in managing its subsidiaries in developing markets. It has been shown the unlike markets of US and UK, the company’s managers remain unfamiliar with the Chinese business & cultural environment and left this responsibility to the local managers (with broad corporate oversight) in supervising the company’s operation in China. In 21st Century (Knowledge Economy) it has been seemed that industries like creative & services are dominating the economic paradigm where the til

This thesis analyzes the motivation and performance of 403 acquisitions made by emerging multinational corporations (EMNCs) in Western Europe and North America between 1994 and 2013. The findings indicate that most EMNCs were motivated to acquire in order to obtain access to the upstream and downstream know-how of their target firms. In addition, the thesis' event study results demonstrate that EMNCs on average generated value for their shareholders with their acquisitions over short periods around acquisition announcement. This result is particularly significant since similar studies on buying firms from developed markets have frequently come to the conclusion that acquirers destroy shareholder value.
