Nonlinear dynamics is still a hot and challenging topic. In this edited book, we focus on fractional dynamics, infinite dimensional dynamics defined by the partial differential equation, network dynamics, fractal dynamics, and their numerical analysis and simulation.Fractional dynamics is a new topic in the research field of nonlinear dynamics which has attracted increasing interest due to its potential applications in the real world, such as modeling memory processes and materials. In this part, basic theory for fractional differential equations and numerical simulations for these equations will be introduced and discussed.In the infinite dimensional dynamics part, we emphasize on numerical calculation and theoretical analysis, including constructing various numerical methods and computing the corresponding limit sets, etc.In the last part, we show interest in network dynamics and fractal dynamics together with numerical simulations as well as their applications.

Since the 1990s five books on ‘Applications of Computational Mechanics in Geotechnical Engineering’ have been published. Innovative Numerical Modelling in Geomechanics is the 6th and final book in this series, and contains papers written by leading experts on computational mechanics. The book treats highly relevant topics in the field of geotechnics, such as environmental geotechnics, open and underground excavations, foundations, embankments and rockfill dams, computational systems and oil geomechanics. Special attention is paid to risk in geotechnical engineering, and to recent developments in applying Bayesian networks and Data Mining techniques. Innovative Numerical Modelling in Geomechanics will be of interest to civil, mining and environmental engineers, as well as to engineering geologists. Recent Advances in Numerical Methods features contributions from distinguished researchers, focused on significant aspects of current numerical methods and computational mathematics. This volume of research papers comprises the proceedings of the first International Conference on Mathematics of Neural Networks and Applications (MANNA), which was held at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford from July 3rd to 7th, 1995 and attended by 116 people. The meeting was strongly supported and, in addition to a stimulating academic programme, it featured a delightful venue, excellent food and accommo dation, a full social programme and fine weather - all of which made for a very enjoyable week. This was the first meeting with this title and it was run under the auspices of the Universities of Huddersfield and Brighton, with sponsorship from the US Air Force (European Office of Aerospace Research and Development) and the London Math ematical Society. This enabled a very interesting and wide-ranging conference pro gramme to be offered. We sincerely thank all these organisations, USAF-EOARD, LMS, and Universities of Huddersfield and Brighton for their invaluable support. The conference organisers were John Mason (Huddersfield) and Steve Ellacott (Brighton), supported by a programme committee consisting of Nigel Allinson (UMIST), Norman Biggs (London School of Economics), Chris Bishop (Aston), David Lowe (Aston), Patrick Parks (Oxford), John Taylor (King's College, Lon don) and Kevin Warwick (Reading). The local organiser from Huddersfield was Ros Hawkins, who took responsibility for much of the administration with great efficiency and energy. The Lady Margaret Hall organisation was led by their bursar, Jeanette Griffiths, who ensured that the week was very smoothly run.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Numerical Analysis and Its Applications, NAA 2008, held in Lozenetz, Bulgaria in June 2008. The 61 revised full papers presented together with 13 invited papers were carefully selected during two rounds of reviewing and improvement. The papers address all current aspects of numerical analysis and discuss a wide range of problems concerning recent achievements in physics, chemistry, engineering, and economics. A special focus is given to numerical approximation and computational geometry, numerical linear algebra and numerical solution of transcendental equations, numerical methods for differential equations, numerical modeling, and high performance scientific computing.

The aim of this book is to handle different application problems of science and engineering using expert Artificial Neural Network (ANN). As such, the book starts with basics of ANN along with different mathematical preliminaries with respect to algebraic equations. Then it addresses ANN based methods for solving different algebraic equations viz. polynomial equations, diophantine equations, transcendental equations, system of linear and nonlinear equations, eigenvalue problems etc. which are the basic equations to handle the application problems mentioned in the content of the book. Although there exist various methods to handle these problems, but sometimes those may be problem dependent and may fail to give a converge solution with particular discretization. Accordingly, ANN based methods have been addressed here to solve these problems. Detail ANN architecture with step by step procedure and algorithm have been included. Different example problems are solved with respect to various application and mathematical problems. Convergence plots and/or convergence tables of the solutions are depicted to show the efficacy of these methods. It is worth mentioning that various application problems viz. Bakery problem, Power electronics applications, Pole placement, Electrical Network Analysis, Structural engineering problem etc. have been solved using the ANN based methods.
