BOOK EXCERPT:

Following his widely acclaimed "Constructing Local Theologies", Robert J. Schreiter's "The New Catholicity" takes a close look at the issues that are reshaping theology today. Schreiter proposes that an expanded concept of catholicity can meet the challenge of forming a theology that can cohere between the opposites of "global" and "local".

Making All Things New

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Ilia Delio introduces a new word, catholicity, which is destined to become as discussed and familiar in this century as the word Catholic was in the 2nd century. As Delio demonstrates, catholicity is a conscious awareness of how everything - sun and stars, maple trees and muddy rivers and all organisms from the single-celled to homo sapiens - forms one thing. It is a dynamic, spiritual quality that quite literally means "becoming whole." Catholicity is an inner principle which first burst forth in the life of Jesus, and has the power to reconnect all the dimensions of life: spirituality, religion, the new sciences, culture, and society."--Back cover

Making All Things New

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The bestselling author of The Unbearable Wholeness of Being introduces a new paradigm for being Catholic: Catholicity, destined to become as familiar in this century as the word Catholic was in the 2nd century. Catholicity is a conscious awareness of how everything --the sun, moon, stars, Kepler, Saturn, maple trees, muddy rivers, amoeba, bacteria and all peoples of the earth -- form a whole. It is a dynamic quality of being which burst forth in the life of Jesus with the power to make all things new. It is now beginning to connect all the dimensions of life: religion, spirituality, the sciences, art, culture, and society. Sr. Ilia fully describes this unitive principle which is being expressed by Pope Francis and emerging in the lives of sincere seekers everywhere. Making All Things New is at once an important stand-alone work and the first volume in new series unveiling the reality of catholicity and wholeness under the guidance of Sr. Ilia Delio.

Majority World Theology

More Christians live in the Majority World than in Europe and North America. Yet most theological literature does not reflect the rising tide of Christian reflection coming from these regions. Risking The Church

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

As a consequence of numerous social and theological movements over the last few decades, the Roman Catholic Church finds itself in a situation that some have described as a state of 'peril'. This book traces the emergence of that 'peril', develops a systematic ecclesiology that identifies both the mission and resources of the Church in the present-day, and explores possible responses to some of the specific challenges facing the contemporary Church. The book develops an understanding of the Catholic tradition in order to highlight its potential for development.

The Radical Invitation Of Jesus

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The book addresses the way we are able to understand the radical invitation of Jesus. The invitation is to those who heard Jesus in the first century, the intervening centuries, and those in the twenty-first century urging them to turn away from a life that is self-centered and to seek a life that is God-centered, accepting the reign of God in one’s life rather than wealth, pleasure, power, and fame. Jesus says that we are to seek first the kingdom of God and all of our basic needs will be met, being transformed and finding meaning and purpose in our lives. The invitation is radical in that it calls on us to give up the accepted norms and values of our culture and world and give ourselves to a life of integrity and truthfulness, love and compassion, and justice and peace. We are invited to find our true identity, to be filled with and transformed by the God of love and to become one who is filled with grace and truth, as Jesus was.

Introduction La Litt Rature Berb Re 1 La Po Sie

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This volume contains selected papers presented at a conference on Orthodox Christianity and its contemporary European setting. The conference was held in England, at the University of Leeds, in June 2001 and drew together historians, theologians, philosophers, specialists in theological education and political scientists. Countries with an Orthodox Christian history were well represented, as well as Orthodoxy in the diaspora and other Christian confessions by representatives from Western Europe and the United States and Canada. The coherence of Orthodox Christianity and contemporary threats to its coherence formed one main strand for reflection, but discussion also broadened out to consider the nature of religious tradition as such. Part I of the collection brings together papers on such matters as identity, nationalism, globalization, human rights discourse, ecumenical dialogue and competing interpretations of what it means to be European. Part II focuses on Orthodox Christianity in Russia and Part III on the traditionally Orthodox countries of Armenia, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine. The present collection is meant as a contribution to further reflection on Orthodox identity, and relationship between Christianity and culture in Europe at the beginning of the twenty-first century.
