BOOK EXCERPT:
This book provides an overview of current theory, research and practice in the field of language anxiety and brings together a range of perspectives on this psychological construct in a single volume. Chapters in the volume are divided into three sections. Part 1 revisits language anxiety theory, showing that it can be viewed as a complex and dynamic construct and that it is linked to other psychological variables, such as the self and personality. In Part 2, a series of contextualised studies on language anxiety are presented, with a key feature of these studies being the diverse research designs which are applied in different instructional settings across the globe. Part 3 bridges theory and practice by presenting coping strategies and practice activities with a view to informing classroom practice and pedagogical interventions.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Systemic sclerosis (scleroderma) is an incurable connective tissue disease of unknown etiology. Three key processes play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis: immune dysregulation and inflammation, endothelial injury and vasculopathy, and fibrosis. Tissue fibrosis is the dominant and characteristic feature that affects the skin and visceral organs. Life expectancy of scleroderma patients has improved over recent years, mainly because of better treatment of organ involvement and complications; however, no curative disease-modifying therapies exist to date. This book aims to provide students, trainees, rheumatologists, and other specialists interested in this disease with a comprehensive overview of novel pathogenetic mechanisms, management approaches, and therapeutic targets of several major vascular and fibrotic manifestations, and is useful insight into a number of usually neglected aspects of scleroderma.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Since the first case of HIV was diagnosed in 1981, several efforts have gone into its prevention and control. However, it remains a leading scourge today, with no cure despite the international attention and publicity it receives. It is one of the few diseases specifically given attention in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). There has been inadequate effort by academia in developing countries towards contributing to in-depth knowledge of HIV, as well as stimulating the interest of students in the topic. As the search for a cure continues, this book is timely, discussing the changing epidemiology of HIV. The contributors are not only academicians, but also seasoned programmers who are working in the realm of HIV care.
