This book collects the contributions presented at AGOP 2019, the 10th International Summer School on Aggregation Operators, which took place in Olomouc (Czech Republic) in July 2019. It includes contributions on topics ranging from the theory and foundations of aggregation functions to their various applications. Aggregation functions have numerous applications, including, but not limited to, data fusion, statistics, image processing, and decision-making. They are usually defined as those functions that are monotone with respect to each input and that satisfy various natural boundary conditions. In particular settings, these conditions might be relaxed or otherwise customized according to the user’s needs. Noteworthy classes of aggregation functions include means, t-norms and t-conorms, uninorms and nullnorms, copulas and fuzzy integrals (e.g., the Choquet and Sugeno integrals). This book provides a valuable overview of recent research trends in this area.

The increasing number of research papers appeared in the last years that either make use of aggregation functions or contribute to its theoretieal study asses its growing importance in the field of Fuzzy Logie and in others where uncertainty and imprecision play a relevant role. Since these papers are pub lished in many journals, few books and several proceedings of conferences, books on aggregation are partieularly welcome. To my knowledge, "Agrega tion Operators. New Trends and Applications" is the first book aiming at generality , and I take it as a honour to write this Foreword in response to the gentle demand of its editors, Radko Mesiar, Tomasa Calvo and Gaspar Mayor. My pleasure also derives from the fact that twenty years aga I was one of the first Spaniards interested in the study of aggregation functions, and this book includes work by several Spanish authors. The book contains nice and relevant original papers, authored by some of the most outstanding researchers in the field, and since it can serve, as the editors point out in the Preface, as a small handbook on aggregation, the book is very useful for those entering the subject for the first time. The book also contains apart dealing with potential areas of application, so it can be helpful in gaining insight on the future developments.

Combining balance sheet analysis with historical institutional analysis, this book traces the evolution of social sector financial balance sheets in the US from 1960 to 2018. This innovative historical-institutional approach, ranging from the micro level of households to the macro level of the federal government, reveals that the displacement of households by banks has been a long-term process. This gradual compounding of financialization is at odds with widely accepted views about financialization, contemporary banking theory, financial intermediation theory, and post-Keynesian and endogenous money approaches. Complex problems and systems, which prevail in the real world, cannot often be tackled and solved either by traditional methods offered by mathematics or even the traditional computer science (CS) and and artificial intelligence (AI)..). What is the way out of this dilemma? Advanced methodologies, and tools and techniques, „mimicking” human reasoning or the behavior of animals, animal populations or certain parts of the living bod, based on traditional computer science science and the initial approaches of artificial intelligence are often referred to as biologically inspired methods, or often computational intelligence (CI). Computational intelligence offers effective and efficient solutions to many „unsolvable" problems problems. However, it is far from being a ready to use and complete collection of approaches, and is rather a continuously developing field without clear borders. The emerging new models and algorithms of computational intelligence are deeply rooted in the vast apparatus of traditional mathematics. Thus, the investigation of connections and synergy between mathematics and computational intelligence is an eminent goal which is periodically pursued by a group of mathematicians and computational intelligence researchers who regularly attand the annual European Symposia on Computational Intelligence and Mathematics (ESCIM). Some relevant papers from the last ESCIM-2020 are included in this volume.

This volume presents the state of the art of new developments, and some interesting and relevant applications of the OWA (ordered weighted averaging) operators. The OWA operators were introduced in the early 1980s by Ronald R. Yager as a conceptually and numerically simple, easily implementable, yet extremely powerful general aggregation operator. That simplicity, generality and implementability of the OWA operators, combined with their intuitive appeal, have triggered much research both in the foundations and extensions of the OWA operators, and in their applications to a wide variety of problems in various fields of science and technology. Part I: Methods includes papers on theoretical foundations of OWA operators and their extensions. The papers in Part II: Applications show some more relevant applications of the OWA operators, mostly means, as powerful yet general aggregation operators. The application areas are exemplified by environmental modeling, social networks, image analysis, financial decision making and water resource management.
