BOOK EXCERPT:
Not Your Dad’s Stroke is written by a stroke survivor for stroke survivors and their loved ones. It documents the author’s recovery from a 2012 stroke, and examines the research and treatment advancements over the twenty years since his dad had his stroke. The author also discusses strategies and resources to help make recovery easier. The book includes personal accounts from other stroke survivors, caregivers, and a therapist. Not all the stories have happy endings, but all are informative and inspirational. Most newly diagnosed stroke patients are in fear of the unknown. In the author’s case, his first thought was of his dad's stroke, and how it had been the start of his dad’s decline. However, as the author’s treatment and recovery began, the first thing he realized was that things had changed for the better, with faster diagnoses and improved treatments. From the beginning, he had a better prognosis, with early discussions on recovery and preventing the next stroke. Everyone knows someone that has had a stroke. It can happen to anyone at any age. No two strokes are the same, as no two recoveries are the same. The bottom line is that recovery is hard work, survivors have to keep at it, and at some point, learn to accept the new version of themselves. This book will be an informative resource and inspiration for newly diagnosed stroke patients, anyone who has suffered a stroke, and for the loved ones and caregivers of stroke survivors. The manuscript was built around common questions about stroke identified though conversations with stroke survivors, caregivers, and peer support workers.

This is book 1 of the Big Cats MC romance series! Books 2 and 3 are available everywhere now! I’m gonna stroke her ‘til I get what I want: a baby. She’s a good girl getting lost on the wrong side of the tracks. But she’d better be real careful. Because Sin City ain’t a playground. It’s a hunting ground. And I’m the king of the jungle. Nikki is exactly what I’ve been prowling for: An innocent girl with a body built for sin. And in this nightclub, that makes her a prime target. She’s had some boring rich boy hounding her all night long. But when I swoop in and show her what it’s like to truly take a ride on the wild side… She’s got nothin’ to say but yes. I take her home and coax moan after moan from her plump lips. Sweaty and spent, we part ways. I never thought I’d see her again. But the rich boy she left behind won’t give up so easily. He’s got footage of precious Nikki in the arms of a dirty biker. And he’s determined to show it to her daddy. I’m guessing the man won’t be too excited to see his little girl corrupted by a man like me. But he definitely won’t be happy when Nikki drops her other bombshell: She’s pregnant with my kid.

National broadcast journalist Hugh Hewitt warns how a Clinton "reign" would damage the fundamental, foundational traditions upon which America is built. In THE QUEEN, Hugh Hewitt's in-depth examination of the career and accomplishments -epic failures, really- of the real Hillary Clinton will show you why-after her decades of working so hard, after surviving Bill and his antics, after losing to an upstart in 2008, submerging her boiling anger and wounded pride, and after enduring the real predations of the "vast right-wing conspiracy" that has been dogging her throughout-Hillary is on the brink of achieving it all as the 2016 Democratic Presidential Nominee. Not since the publication of The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli 500 years ago has a member of the political opposition written so candidly about the strengths and weaknesses of the strongest member of his opposing political party. Brilliant and insightful, THE QUEEN is simply unique among political books of our era.

This voice-driven, narrative, non-fiction book relays the stories of seven courageous women whose lives have been greatly impacted by a loved one’s stroke, resulting in loss of language ability to one degree or another. Aphasia leads to varying degrees of problems in speaking, understanding, reading, writing, gesturing, and using numbers. Aphasia can be extremely stressful for both the individual who had the stroke and for their family and friends. Speech is such a significant part of human interaction, and it’s something that most people take for granted. It’s hard to be able to communicate if you’ve been dependent upon verbal communication and yours is suddenly impaired. Fortunately, some recovery from aphasia is possible, and there are still ways to effectively communicate, even with aphasia. The stories contained in the book are intended to help others feel less alone as they navigate their loss and the confusing healthcare system. 100,000 heartbeats a day means a lot of wear and tear over the years. Now two doctors explain how to lower the risk of a stroke as you age. Natural aging leads to artery plaque, high blood pressure, and slower and irregular heartbeats. You can do everything right, but while you can influence some aspects of aging on your own, some you cannot—at least not without your doctor’s help. Fortunately, the biology of aging is no longer mysterious. Heart and blood vessel health is knowable, measurable, and manageable. In You Can Prevent a Stroke, Dr. Joshua Yamamoto and Dr. Kristin Thomas help us understand what we can do, and what we can ask of our doctors, to manage the effects of aging on our circulation so that we do not have a stroke. Drawing on fundamentals learned at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, they offer principles and preventative steps that aren’t one-size-fit-all solutions or magical cures—just solid science to help anyone manage the natural processes that affect us all. Included is information on: · Establishing a relationship with a physician · Knowing the health of your heart · Knowing the health of your arteries · Knowing the regularity of your heartbeat · Knowing if it’s time to take a medicine to prevent plaque in your arteries, and whether you need a pill to prevent a blood clot Strokes can be avoided—and You Can Prevent a Stroke explains how.

Landis L. Graden’s memoir, “Bent, Not Broken: Crossing Life's Bridges of Tragedy, Trauma, and Triumph”, takes an earnest look into how one of the most important moments in his life was affected by the abuse and trauma of his younger years. Wearing a mask of self-doubt and fear for most of his life, Graden starts his journey in this book with a visit to the Obama White House as an invited VIP guest. It is this visit that serves as the catalyst to uncover how generational abuse seeped its way into his adulthood and made him feel like an unworthy imposter. A successful entrepreneur, Graden uses his own stories of hardships and battles to encourage all people, but particularly men who have fallen victim to “strong stereotyping”, to lean into the idea of vulnerability and continuous healing. The many personal moments documented throughout the book give stark honesty to how his father laid the foundation very early on for what he thought a strong man was supposed to be. He draws back each layer of what made his father abusive, noting how even his father’s foundations had been laid generations before him. This reflective investigation into finding why he felt like an imposter and how to heal ultimately takes Graden into memories of his mother's love, the eventual forgiveness of his father and the babysitter that molested him, and the various relationships and business ventures that were impacted by the traumas he had yet to start to heal from. He discovers that he presents his confidence, success, and ego through his mask that has hidden years of unsifted traumas. Through patience with himself, therapy, and faith, Graden shares his path to healing using vulnerability as his biggest strength in determining what it really means to be a man. The sharing of his stories cultivates messages that in the end bring about conversations on societal expectations of men and how years of abuse and trauma can give even the best and brightest wounds that require healing. Graden’s story of overcoming trauma to find wholeness is an inspiration to all, and a call to action for men to access vulnerability to find healing and happiness.
