On The Frontlines

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Our culture is under attack. The battlefield is covered with the ruins of landmarks and monuments of the past dedicated to morality and natural law. Throughout the centuries, Christians have held high the banner of Jesus Christ for the world to see. The culture has been protected and defended by the Christian soldiers in America since its founding. However, there is a darkness spreading throughout the land. Leftist doctrines are gaining footholds and acquiring the fortresses of old. The hallowed bastions of learning, called American public schools, once venerated by the world, are now languishing, crippled by the leftist ideologies they have now adopted in place of classical liberal education. Christianity, once the standard moral center of the community, has now been replaced by pluralism, relativism, and postmodernism. The epicenter of this transformation has been and still is the public schools. On the Frontlines: Exposing Satan's Tactics to Destroy a Generation is a clarion call from a Christian educator and administrator to the church. It is time we, as a body of believers, stand up and be counted among those who refuse to allow the religion of the left to prevail.

Music On The Frontline

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The story of Nicolas Nabokov's involvement with the CIA-funded Congress for Cultural Freedom (CCF) is a story of the politics and sociology of culture; how music was used for political ends and how intellectual groups formed and functioned during the Cold War. The seemingly independent CCF, established to counteract apparent Soviet successes in the fields of the arts and intellectual life, appointed Nabokov (a Russian emigre and minor composer) as its Secretary General in 1951.Over the next ten years he gave music a high profile in the work of the organisation, producing four international musical festivals, the first and most ambitious of which was 1952's L'Oeuvre du XXe siècle in Paris, an event which showcased the work of no less than 62 composers. As Ian Wellens reveals, Nabokov's musical involvement with the CCF was in fact a struggle on two fronts.Apparently a defence of Western modernism against 'backward', 'provincial' Soviet music, Nabokov's writings show this to have meshed closely with the domestic concern- shared by many intellectuals -that high culture was being undermined by an increasingly culturally aware middle class. His attacks on Soviet cultural policy, and his unflattering assessments of Shostakovich, are seen to be not merely salvos in the cold war but part of a broader campaign aimed at securing the authority and prestige of intellectuals.

Turnstile Immigration

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Turnstile Immigration addresses a variety of issues affecting present and future immigration policy: designer immigration; queue-jumping and quasi-residency; asylum-shopping and family-class echo; the contemporary Convention Refugee System and the Humanitarian and Compassionate Review System. The author also looks at the impact of immigration on the future multiculturalism in Canada and seeks to initiate and contribute to public dialogue in Canada on this important issue. Foster argues that immigration should be a means for building and strengthening Canadian society and promoting social justice. However, at crucial junctures the underlying principles of "social order" and "social justice" conflict in such a way as to render the immigration system virtually inept. Canadian immigration today has become a bureaucratic system that has little to do with nation-building principles and a lot to do with red tape. He calls this halting procession of humanity Turnstile Immigration--where select persons gain entry to the promised land only slowly and one by one.
