4th Padjadjaran International Physics Symposium (PIPS 2019) Selected, peer-reviewed papers from the 4th Padjadjaran International Physics Symposium (PIPS), November 13-14, 2019, Bandung, Indonesia

Young Researchers' meetings are held annually late in December since 2002 and they are organized by the Materials Research Society of Serbia. Originally conceived as seminars, since 2007 these meetings were transformed into conferences. The previous meetings featured presentations based on the research of various young scientists from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Slovenia, Brazil, Germany, United States of America, China, Poland, Belgium, Spain, Romania, United Kingdom, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Russia, Canada, etc. At the Conference, young researchers, students of doctoral, master and undergraduate studies, are given the opportunity to make an overview of their research into materials science and engineering through oral and poster presentations. As for the scientific content of the conference, we have given full priority to research topics that are currently considered as being on the frontier of the field. Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials, Synthesis and Engineering of Biomaterials, Application of Biomaterials, Theoretical Modeling of Materials and Advanced Methods for Synthesis and Processing present only some of those exciting topics that will be given the central stage and most attention during this meeting. The Twelfth Young Researchers' Conference Materials Science and Engineering was held in Belgrade, Serbia on December 11-13, 2013. It was organized by the Materials Research Society of Serbia and Institute of Technical Sciences of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

The steady increase in computational power induces an equally steady increase in the complexity of the engineering models and associated computer codes. This particularly affects the modeling of the mechanical response of materials. Material behavior is nowadays modeled in the strongly nonlinear range by tak ing into account finite strains, complex hysteresis effects, fracture phenomena and multiscale features. Progress in this field is of fundamental importance for many engineering disciplines, especially those concerned with material testing, safety, reliability and serviceability analyses of engineering structures. In recent years many important achievements have been made in the field of the theoretical formulation, the mathematical analysis and the numerical im plementation of deformation processes in solids. Computational methods and simulation techniques today play a central role in advancing the understanding of complex material behavior. Research in the field of "ComputationalMechan ics of Materials" is concerned with the development of mathematical models and numerical solution techniques for the simulation of material response. It is a very broad interdisciplinary field of science with inputs from traditional fields such as Applied Mechanics, Applied Mathematics, Materials Science, Solid State Physics and Information Technology. The intention of the IUTAM Symposium "Computational Mechanics of Solid Materials at Large Strains", held at the University of Stuttgart, Germany, from August 20-24, 200I, was to give a state of the art and a survey about recent developments in this field and to create perspectives for future research trends.

This text is a first attempt to pull together the whole of semiconductor science and technology since 1970 in so far as semiconductor multilayers are concerned. Material, technology, physics and device issues are described with approximately equal emphasis, and form a single coherant point of view. The subject matter is the concern of over half of today's active semiconductor scientists and technologists, the remainder working on bulk semiconductors and devices. It is now routine to design and the prepare semiconductor multilayers at a time, with independent control over the dropping and composition in each layer. In turn these multilayers can be patterned with features that as a small as a few atomic layers in lateral extent. The resulting structures open up many new ares of exciting solid state and quantum physics. They have also led to whole new generations of electronic and optoelectronic devices whose superior performance relates back to the multilayer structures. The principles established in the field have several decades to go, advancing towards the ultimate of materials engineering, the design and preparation of solids atom by atom. The book should appeal equally to physicists, electronic engineers and materials scientists.

The conference is free of charge and the participants are invited to submit their papers to the journals Tehnika – Novi Materijali and Hemijska Industrija. The Ninth Young Researchers' Conference Materials Science and Engineering was held in Belgrade, Serbia, on December 20-22, 2010. It was organized by the Materials Research Society of Serbia and Institute of Technical Sciences of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
