Conclusion Nature's Amazing Wonders Author Bio Introduction A horse doesn’t care how much you know until he knows how much you care ~ Pat Parelli *** Ponies: Ponies are beautiful little equines with big hearts! The name Pony comes from a French word that means: foal. Do you remember what a foal is? CURIOUS FACT FOR KIDS: When a horse is born until 6 months of age it’s called a foal. But this does not mean a Pony is only a Pony until they are 6 months old! Why? Well, other horses grow up and get different names like: Yearling, Colt, Stallion, Filly, Gelding and Mare. But not a Pony. No matter how old a Pony gets, it will still be a Pony! Ponies are smart and friendly and some of them can be a little hard to handle. But not all of them are like that! Only some. Most Ponies are great for small children to ride, if they are trained in the right way. Ponies are sometimes called “miniature.” Do you know the meaning of this word? Some dictionaries say: “Very small in size.” So Ponies are smaller than other horses. You probably know a lot about big horses, so where do Ponies come from? Sadly, we do not know exactly where Ponies come from, but we do have a good idea. I will tell you more about this in Chapter 1, when we talk about the history of Ponies.

BOOK EXCERPT:

Hola, Cuties! I’m Jacinda Gonzalez, almost twelve. Although I think I’m pretty nice, not to mention way cool and one of the most knowledgeable people in all things horse, I just can’t make any friends in my new school. The only things flying my way are totally rude insults. The horseback riding therapy farm where I volunteer becomes my perfect escape from mean bullies. And when Angel, a scrawny, muddy American Curly, shows up as rescue, no one but me can see her potential and lovableness, so I take her on as a project horse to get her ready for sale. But, the thing is, I don’t want them to sell her. She’d be so perfect for therapy. So perfect. Now, if only I could prove it. Anyway, Angel’s sugar-candy personality inspires me to be sweet in spite of bad things happening to me. So, of course, I can’t resist the urge to make the world a whole lot brighter. Come on in and see how I do it! Middle Grade, Children's book, ages 6-8, 10-12, and up. A clean, cute, touching story for any lover of horses. American Curly Horse. BOOK EXCERPT:

As embers of the Alamo smoldered, the Mexican Army swept across Texas to Goliad where some 350 Texans were slaughtered. In early 1846, The United States declared war with Mexico. Five Tennessee cousins vow to join the fight. Cameron Augustus Moore, narrator of the story, was barely 18 and Cam’s best friend, Andrew Hawkins, called “Hawk”, were selected by lottery to join the fight. With spirits up, anticipations for glory intensified. But time and reality hardened boys into warriors leaning on the nobility and courage of horses which often proved their salvation. This true account chronicles a long dangerous trek to get to war, the war in Mexico and challenge getting home with their horses, ever watchful in sickness riddled camps or, on command, charging into the teeth of battle where they fought, died or triumphed together. Jaded Horses reveals the spirit of man and horse melded together to survive a terrible conflict in an unforgiving land. It is a story of compassion for defeated enemies and devotion for those back home. It testifies of how being valiant and faithful to vows made with a father brings life’s rewards.
